US Games for XB1 and PS4

Hi All,

Just wanted to get people's thoughts on the demand for US video games. I see the likes of the overseas stores and the impact that has on shipping times and I'm working on a store for imported games that are available with local shipping.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • It all depends on the price you can and are willing to charge for them. If you can provide a good saving to your customers then you can concentrate on gaining a healthy reputation over time. You need to be certain that you can also provide the product in a timely manner. This means that if you offer a new release then your customer needs to get it within a week of release otherwise they'll view your value as not worth it. There isn't anything worse for gamers aside from their consoles/PC's breaking down than seeing their friends playing the latest release when they're stuck waiting especially if all they saved was $5-10.

Be mindful that by importing and mailing out you're paying delivery fees as well as the customer. That rapidly eats into your potential profit.

  • Thanks for the feedback, you make some good points. I can get them shipped fairly cheap which is ok, and getting them out wouldn't be too much of an issue.
I guess with new releases it would depend on when the item arrives at the distributors warehouse, from there they usually get here in about 2-3 days so if they arrive a day before street release then thats probably not too bad, but something I will take on board on be attentive to.

  • I think you'd be struggling to compete with Beat the Bomb - who has a good presence here on Ozbargain.

    • Compete in what way though? Pricing? Service? Looking at some of their prices in PS4 they seem to be a tad high in my opinion. e.g. Lego Movie for PS4 import is 74.95?

      • prices for their latest post seem pretty good especially BF4

        • noted, thanks.

this; people will flock to the cheapest option, especially if indexed on ozgamegoat or other similar price comparison sites; then again if delievery takes too long people will look elsewhere…

if you have a good ditribution network from US to you to customer that is speedy and cheap people will use it, but it has to offer a better service/speed/price than other import stores such of from the UK or US that people are already using…

    • Agree, price is probably the major factor followed by shipping times. Shipping from AU should hopefully cut that down to a minimum.

  • For those interested its up now. Range and stock is very limited for the moment.
