Anyone else go to a marathon of the whole trilogy today?

    • i went yesterday for parts 1-3 and just realized that the whole things isn't nothing special, nerds, dorks and the corporations are trying too hard to make some big universe that can be milked forever, to generate billions of dollars income etc. Honestly, its like watching Indiana johns but in space, just run, run, run. Its entertaining, im not gonna lie, but its becoming ridiculous with every new part, these kind of movies with endless cases and chasing in space from one end to the other loose the charm…

        I think I've found your problem…

        You don't say?

corporations are trying too hard to make some big universe that can be milked forever

It's like you discovered what 'merchandising' or 'commercial success' meant. Lucasfilm/Disney is a for-profit company and Star Wars is a money-making franchise. Take any story in any medium you love. Chances are, it was created to make a profit. Of course, there's room in there for authentic story-telling and integrity, but they're just gravy. Stories that don't make money, generally don't get told because well, artists need to eat too.

        Indiana johns (sic)

It's a childish oversimplification to believe Star Wars is a series of chases. It's a sci-fi fantasy where the heroes are more often than not, underdogs, pitted against a seemingly unstoppable enemy and can't fight every battle.

      • agree whole heartedly. Like many things, its something that should have been left alone, but like most cash cows, greedy people cant resist giving it a milk.

Went to the OT marathon today. The crowd was great, but about five minutes in, my heart sank when I saw 'lobster man' in the Tantive IV scene. I knew we were watching either the 2004 DVD or Blu-ray remasters with the horrible over-saturation. By the time we got to R2 hiding from the tusken raiders behind the CGI rocks, I realised it was the Blu-Ray version (soon confirmed by Ben Kenobi's new screech).

I wound up leaving after Empire but to the crowd's credit, they booed when Greedo shot first.

Yeah, that was the first time I've seen this version (last one I saw was the DVD release). When Ben did his new version of the dragon call, someone in the audience let out an audible "what the f**k was that?", which cracked up the whole audience. I'm not really a fan of any of the changes, but yikes, this one is right up there with the worst of them. It's laughably bad.

        • If you watch that scene again, Lucas added so many CGI rocks in front that R2 couldn't possibly squeezed past in the first place. And it changes between frames so when the camera is behind him, the rocks disappear. I can excuse carelessness, but people actually went back and painstakingly added things that are completely unnecessary and don't even make sense. Which about sums up my attitude toward the changes.

This was the first warning sign for me, Lobster Man in all his glory!

  • It says Region A/1
ETA: the complete saga on UK is AUD 66.29 delivered, but without the DVDs. Is the US version non George Lucas edited?

    Just watch the de-specialised version.

I don't know how many copies I have bought, but this is the closest to how I remember it…..

  • Geez talk about film bitch session rather than comment on the deal……..

FYI I have never bought any copies but the boy is now 6 - have to introduce him somehow…….

Yes it is region A / 1 but no confirmation either way on the region checking site i used and my DVD player is region free, if the Blu-Rays don't work then I'm sure somewhere on this site there will be a chep reign free Blu-Ray player that isn't Kogan……

Yes you can get just the Blu-Ray Complete collection from Amazon UK slightly cheaper but this way I have the DVDs as well and when the final trilogy comes out it might stand a chance of matching……

& all in all much cheaper than local sourcing……..
