Question about Tempur mattress and zero g base

Hi all,

I was at Harvey Norman's on the weekend looking at beds for my wife and I, and I had a lie down on the Tempur mattress… I think it was an "original ergo 19CM" on a "Zero G Life" base.

Basically, it was some sort of memory foam and it molded to your body and your bodies' warmth. Then, when you were settled in, you'd press a button on the thing and it'd put the bed into a certain position (legs slightly raised, chest raised less). It sounds awful, but it was singly the most comfortable bed I have ever lay on.

It was so extremely comfortable… much more than I ever thought possible from a bed lol.

Has anyone else had any experience with these beds/mattresses? They were doing the base + mattress for $3999, and nobody else seems to sell them.

  • I don't have 'em personally but my colleague swears by his $6k mattress. He even managed to convince another person to buy it…

  • +1

My parents have a tempur, and it's really comfortable. I think it takes some getting used to though.

The pillows are horrible though - if they try to upsell you on one, don't bite. It's like sleeping on a rock. I woke up with a headache the first few times I used it.

    • Sorry about your experience. But we have tempur pillows and love them. I find them most comfortable and very soft.(they only seem a little hard in very cold nights but in a few minutes are as soft as ever). Hubby and I have the contour pillows for more than a year now but son has a tempur ombracio which has a funny butterfly shape which suits him as he is a tummy sleeper.

    • We have Tempur pillows as well and I love it but the SO doesn't because it's too soft. They have a decent range though. We got our pillows thrown in with the mattress. We got it 30% off + 2 Tempur pillows + mattress protector.

  • You must be paying a huge premium for Tempur memory foam over other memory foam of equal quality.

    • I think….. the main sell of the Tempur is that the thing underneath moves around, so you can put the bed into an upright position.

If I'm ever down with the flu or my other half is, the idea of propping my back up and eating in the bed sounds somewhat nice.

The position that the bed goes into when you hit "zero g" is absolutely amazing though. I have never been that comfortable on a bed before in my life.

      • Honestly,I would like to be talked out of the tempur, because it's so much Money on a bed…but it's so comfortable and amazing…

Going to check out forty winks on Thursday…So that will give me more of an idea

        • Have a Tempur and love it, definitely think it is worth the money. Ergoflex seems to have a following on WP and can be had for half the price.. problem is there isn't a place to try it out.

Zero G base would definitely be a great addition! Don't get a King if you want or plan to have a Zero G base as you need 2 XL single bases otherwise..

If you need discouraging.. on extremely hot days we find the mattress quite uncomfortable as memory foam tends to get warmer. If you have AC on then that isn't a problem.

Protip: Wait until they are 30% off.. and I think Forty Winks might have the cheapest Tempur.

Personally I have used memory foam and latex for pillows and I prefer latex over memory foam. For bedding heat is the main complaints ao choose wisely.

  • The problem with buying a mattress is that you don't know until you've slept on it for a few nights- a few minutes in a store is worse than useless. It's an educated guess at best.

  • It was so extremely comfortable… much more than I ever thought possible from a bed lol.

    have you tried latex?
