Good deal? BigW $298 Wii U Basic, Wiimote+, Sensor bar, NintendoLand & Just Dance 2014

https://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/video-games-consoles/w…

pretty much the basic console + extras.

nintendoland and the wiimote+ are worth something.

better than the mario kart 8 ~$430 deal, even when they eventually discount that bundle i think this plus the game separately would be cheaper.

you lose 24gb space and the controller charging cradle, anything else?

edit:
ignore this, i posted the bargain and it turns out it's not that great.

  • I am curious to ask why we need the sensor bar for wii u? Is that because of the wiimotes? Is there a sensor come with wii u or it has to be sourced as extra?

well, I am new to wii u.

    Cheers,

    • If you want to use a wiimote, you need a sensor bar. If you are planning on playing everything solo and WiiU games only (not Wii) then no need AFAIK.

  • That deal was $278 at Christmas, OP. I recently saw a bundle in EB Games, Wii-U Basic and Skylanders + ??? (I can't remember the other game ;_;) for $240 (I mean, it might have been pre-owned, and I can't find anything online so it may not be a repeatable occurrence), then you buy Mariokart 8 for $68 from Big W and get a free game (The choices for that free game are all amazing) and you're only out $310. By the time you buy all the great games, you still would be shy of the price for a 'next gen console' with 0 games.

If you can't tell, I'm still bitter about the "Graphics over gameplay" war-horn of the flagship 'hardcore gamer' consoles.

    • It isn't only graphics Frank, it's the quality of games (that aren't Nintendo developed) and also the online multiplayer is infinitely better done on the other two consoles.

      • I would disagree. The exclusives to the 'next gen' consoles so far have all been sub-par, except for InFamous. They're all far worse (Ryze, Knack), far more expensive(Ryze/Titanfall/Dead Rising/ etc), and some are even brazen enough to include microtransactions for 100 dollar games(Forza, Ryse, NBA). If that's "superior game quality" then I would much prefer to play the Wii-U.

As for multiplayer, the PC is the only appropriate option if you don't want to pay a fee. Already paying the phone companies, shouldn't have to pay the game companies.

        • PS3 doesn't need pay to play so that's also an option. As for PS4 games though the third party games are also better. FIFA has a completely new engine and is silky. Lego Marvel has a perfect frame rate (we also have this on the WiiU for my kids and it makes my eyes hurt due to the piss poor frame rate) BF4 has 60+ player games as opposed to 32 on last gen and then there are the graphics that you dismissed.

I don't own an Xbone so can't comment though I heard about the micro transactions in Forza and also that it is a 'lite' version of regular Forza releases due to minimal content.

        • Again, I wouldn't say better. Wonderful 101 and Monster Hunter 3U are both third party and, call me a fanboy, but I'd personally prefer them over any of the exclusives or sport games on the other consoles. Wonderful 101 is the best game I've played in a long time.

I do dismiss the graphics quite eagerly, because I respect the time and cost developers need to put into their games. Capcom published an article about how the games look merely a fifth better than last gen and cost 5 times as much to make. If it were 5 times as much, I'd expect them to look 5 times better. I'd say we've hit a graphics peak, and that if games are going to drop in quality due to the pursuit of pixels, then it's better to play with smeared gross polygons than a highly detailed textured turd. (RYSERYSERYSRYSERYSERYSE)

I mean, if you want to talk about "Which console has the best exclusives in general" then the answer is PS3. Actually it's probably Ps2 because Silent Hill 2 and God Of War. And Ratchet, Jak and Sly series. And Spyro remakes. And Metal Gear. And… you know. Ps2 man, holy crap dem exclusives.

I'll be getting a PS4 down the track, but it's still too much of a payout in for too little payoff. Mucho moola for zilcho games. I am genuinely disappointed to hear about the spree of quitting that Naughty Dog has had recently and hope that they still manage to churn out a real console mover for their next game.

Otherwise it'll be PS3 Watchdogs and Destiny for me, thanks.

        • Fanboy.

Don't worry about ND, they are always changing around staff. Many of the staff left between the first and second Uncharted games I recall. It's not like they are a new company, they've been around for years.

        • If I heard the same news about Retro Studios I'd probably break down and cry, what with them working on a big fat glorious question mark. Is it a new Metroid? Is it a new Star Fox Game!? ZELDA!?

          Only time will tell.
