Camera to attach to bicycle basket (CityCycle)

Ok, this is a tough one. I'm looking for a video camera that I can quickly attach and detach to/from a CityCycle bicycle basket. Attaching to handlebars or helmet is not an option.

This SJ1000 camera from Banggood for AU$77.58 is what I'm looking at so far, but I'm worried that it won't be quick and convenient to attach & detach to/from a basket.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks,
Roy

  • How quick and convenient does the mount need to be?

You could use something like http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Small-Size-4_5-Inch-Flexib…
    or even http://www.banggood.com/Motorcycle-Handlebar-Tripod-Mount-Ho…

to mount it to the basket. Add camera of choice and away you go.

  • Gorilla-pod knock-off should work, then. Thread legs through the basket, wrap to secure. Camera shops sell the expensive version, so you can always take a quick look to see if you reckon it'll work.

If you're feeling paranoid, you can always add a P-clip and short line to the camera so if it does work loose, it won't hit the ground.

Looking at the mount that comes with it as well, seems like you can run webbing through it. Would simply strapping it to the basket be an option for you?

    • Thanks! Yeah strapping it to the basket is an option - just trying to get a clear idea of how that would work. Which mount exactly would you use, and what do you mean by "run webbing through it"?

      • The mount in the picture of the camera you linked to (can't link to it directly but it's the 5th one along) has horizontal and vertical slots in it, presumably for attaching it to a helmet.

A couple of nylon webbing straps with ladder-lock buckles (think this sort of thing : http://www.strapsandbelts.com/images/luggage-straps.jpg )would go through the slots allowing you to strap it to the front of the basket, one between two uprights, one between two cross-pieces.

You might need elastic straps to cut down on camera-shake , but you won't know that until you've seen footage from the ride. ;-)
