Changed my mind about product - pay return postage, original postage, + 10%…details:

I was stupid enough to buy from this company before I searched for them on OzBargain. Anyway, just be aware that their 14 day gauranteed return policy inculdes a term that requires you to pay:

  • return postage
  • original postage (they won't reimburse)
  • 10% restocking fee

They are within their rights, as you agree to the t&c's when you make the purchase, but it's a pretty shitty policy. I mistakenly bought the wrong phone for my wife, and simply wanted to swap it for the right one. The exercise would have cost me $90 in total. My solution was to sell the phone on ebay, which cost me $58 all up, and buy the correct phone from someone more worth dealing with.

Just FYI - not bitching too hard, because it was definitely my stupidity that got me in that mess.

  • TL;DR You changed your mind.

    • thanks for the feedback - added a summary line for like minded readers.

      • Curious, did you open the box? I can understand not reimbursing postage but 10% for an unopened box is steep.

        • no. Told them it was unopened, outlined for them the cost I was up for, etc. etc. I got a repeat form email "So, do you want us to issue you a return number or not?"

It's just a strategy to score an extra margain, in my opinion

        • no its not, its designed to stop people from changing their mind

why would the re-imburse original postage

you made the original mistake by ordering it, should they pay for postage for YOUR MISTAKE??

i think you paying postage both ways and a 10% fee is fair enough really

people have the expectation that a company's time is worth nothing

yeah they guarantee a return but a customer has to pay all charges so the company hasnt lost any money. isnt that fair, i think it is

        • no issue with postage. 10% is ridiculous ($50), but if you like that policy you have the choice of dealing with them.

        • wouldnt go to their website, wouldnt give a shit but their policy seems to be fair to them, not that great for the consumer but if i buy by post and i change my mind, i know its all on me

its not kmart or target is it?

10% is an arbitrary figure, why not 5%? or 15%? but its not outlandish enough to complain about

i always think of the shipping clerk there who has to deal with customers who change their mind… its probably a reasonable amount of time dealing with in and out shipping when they didnt have to but hey, customer is always right, right?

        • +1

I could understand if it topped out. Say 10% up to a maximum of $20. Remember, these dudes are probably on $16.50 an hour and may spend 15 minutes handling the package. You should pay for your mistakes, sure, but some goodwill is expected from a 'good' vendor I think. At the least I should only pay for the harm / cost I cause, in my view.

  • At least they allow you to return the product for change of mind, as they're not legally obligated to accept your return (unless faulty etc). Would you prefer this or not be able to return at all?

    • It obviously makes no difference when I can sell it on eBay for less cost.
