Netflix/Hulu How Much Data ?

Hi,

I am interested in joining either Netflix or Hulu and am wondering how much data is download in watching shows.

Can someone give me an indication on how much bandwidth I would use in say a typical 90 minute movie. I am on a TPG 25GB (peak)/ 25GB (off peak)plan.

Also is it possible to record a show from Netflix/Hulu to watch later

Thanks

  • 1) Depends whether you can get (is your connection fast enough) and want HD or not.
    2) No you can't download, it's streaming only, so you need a half decent connection.

I use HD Netflix and we watched a House of Cards episode last night ~50 minute episode for ~1.2Gb

Google will give you a rough estimate for SD

  • +1

Netflix offers a range of options for both HD and SD. With data usage ranging from 300MB per hour to 4.7GB per hour

Hulu’s data usage is only 650MB per hour for HD streaming.

    • The 4.7Gb/hr would be their 4k streaming.. you'd likely need an NBN or Cable internet connection to have sufficient download speed for them to send you a 4K stream (you also need Windows 8 I think)

      • He's talking FTTP not that crappy FTTN downgraded version of the NBN.
