Coles - no more discount voucher, only triple points?

I went to activate my Coles weekly offer today. Previously I could choose between $10/$20 discount voucher or triple flybuy points depending on the anticipated spend. Todays email ONLY offers triple flybuy points. I haven't noticed any online discussion of this. Is this a recent policy change that affects everyone?

  • Yeah mate, I got the same! I was preempting this offer as I wanted to stock on a sale item in this weeks catalogue, but didn't get the $10/$20 off offer =(

  • I have noticed this as well — mine are for double points instead of a discount voucher.

  • My whirlpool thread was deleted and now redirects to http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1902877&p…
But this hasn't been updated for 3 days and I see nothing there about this change. I'm surprised that this reduction in benefits hasn't triggered much angst yet.

I didn't get the discount voucher either, but calling it a reduction in benefits is a bit of self-entitlement don't you think? It's not welfare. If you don't like their new policy then shop elsewhere.

    • Was there a reason given for deleting your thread. I would have been interested in reading it.

      • No reason given, just a redirect to the old thread. I never got to see if anyone had contributed to the new thread so I don't think you missed anything. Not worth chasing up.

Maybe they've decided that the vouchers are not sufficiently enticing to cheapskateslow spenders like me who don't buy $30 let alone $40 or $50, so they hope to get me to buy whatever. Unfortunately I know that a point is only worth 0.5c based on $10 for 2000 points so that still isn't enough to draw me in.

  • Noticed the same…but only used to spend up big to get a deal with recharges etc. (will wait to see what they come back with)

  • I didn't get any offers at all this week.

  • I got the triple points email offer instead of the $10/$20 voucher offer. I haven't heard of anyone this week getting a voucher offer.

I didn't get a voucher offer a couple of weeks ago and then got one the following week so it's possible they are still out there but not being sent to everyone, every week.

There's a new round of coupon offers out there at the moment which start this week so it's possible that flybuys have changed the type of email offers they are giving in order to fit in with the coupon campaign. This week(week 1) is the high value coupon week. Week 2 is the tripple or double points week so this might be when they start the vouchers again.

    • Are you referring to the recent postal mailout? Mine alternate weekly thus;
Weeks 1 (valid until Sun 11 May), 3, 5.. are 500 Bonus Points
      Weeks 2 (valid Mon 12 - Sun 18 May), 4, 6.. are Triple Points
Which appears to be the inverse of yours.

With the previous email campaign, you got to choose between the $10/$20 discount or Triple Points EVERY week. In keeping with your theory, they might now synchronise the $10/$20 discount to the weeks of the paper Triple Points vouchers ONLY i.e fortnightly. And in the alternate weeks you are limited to the 500 Bonus Points worth $2.50, giving the campaign possible net saving of $17.50 per fortnight per customer.

      Its an attractive theory.
Or the $10/$20 discounts may be targeted to customers who are less likely to use them.
Or they may have decided to just kill off $10/$20 discounts completely.

When we get our weekly emails next week we should have our answer.

      • Maybe I didn't explain it properly. My coupons ruoghly match yours above.

Week 1 coupons are valide to 11 May so we are in week 1 at the moment. Some people got their coupons early and had two weeks to use the week 1 coupon.

My weeks 1,3,5,7,9 are 750 points
My weeks 2,4,6,8,10 are triple points

I've heard of some members getting double points for the even weeks but I've also heard of members who got $ off coupons for the odd weeks and large value point coupons on the even weeks to the equivalent of the $ off coupons. I'm guessing these members don't shop at Coles on a regular basis and they are being sent more high value coupons as an incentive.

I had a similar theory as you with the $10/$20 vouchers being offered in the triple points/double points weeks.

As you said above, we'll have to wait until next week to see what Flybuys/Coles are up to.

  • I wish they lowered the minimum spend. As I dun have a car, there is a limit to how much grocery I can buy. I dun mind $5 off for $40 spend.

    • I've had a $2.50 off a $40 spend docket deal before but they are very rare.

Try not using your flybuys card and just buy as little as possible for a few weeks and see if they start sending you better offers.

      • Thanks. I'll give it a try. Maybe I'll use my other flybuys card. As only Coles is within good walking distance to my home I dun have much choice.

    • If you buy more expensive item, that will bring the total price up :)

  • I haven't received any emails from flybuys today but I just checked my account and there was a new offer there.

The offer was 500 points for a $70 spend at Coles. It does seem to appear that Coles/Flybuys have ended the voucher promotion. It's possible that I was offered 500 points and other members were offered vouchers but I haven't seen any reports of this yet.

    • 500 points for a $70 spend at Coles

I had the same offer and I barely spend anything at Coles (probably <$50 per month)

  • I've received my Coles/Flybuy email today; "750 BONUS POINTS when you spend $160 at Coles - Offer valid Thu 15 May to Sun 18 May 2014"
So now my choice for the even weeks is Triple Points from the postal paper voucher or 750 bonus point for $160 spend. The 750 bonus points looks better at first glance compared to 3 * 160, but we also get extra points each month for Coles insurance policies. And we usually pick up a few hundred extra points from other Coles offers.
So I guess we will we using the Triple Bonus points for the even weeks going forward.

    • The OR above doesn't have to apply.

For week 2 from tomorrow onwards you can take up both offers. Activate the email, spend the $160(if you can justify it), hand over the triple points coupon in the same transaction and you end up with 1230 plus your Coles insurance points at least for the transaction.

If you have any other Coles coupons you can use them in the same transaction, make the most of them. Some of the product based coupons have an expiry date of May 20 so you don't have very long to use them.

      • Good thinking. Previously we had to choose between the $10/20 voucher or Triple Points so I hadn't considered that both could now be applied. At least I don't see anything in the vouchers terms which would prohibit this. I'll try it this weekend. It getting increasingly difficult to predict how many point you get after a shop with triple points here, insurance points and product bonus points :-)
        Thanks

  • I got emailed 2 offers.
1 for the 500 points over $70 spend & 1000 bonus points for over $30 spend at liquorland or first choice liquor.

  • The vouchers are back but in a reduced form.

My offer this week was $5 voucher for a $50 spend and $15 voucher for an $80 spend.

  • Got Coles email today and they brought back the spend $50/$10 off for me! Spend $80 of only $15 not $20 off though!

    • You're lucky to get the $10 offer for $50. My offer was only $5 for spending $60. I don't want to spend above that so I'm not taking the higher $15 offer for $90

      • Sorry my mistake!!! I was too excited when I got the email and posted it up here straight away… I just checked again and it is in fact only $5 off for spending $50 >.<

        • Okay, that sounds consistent with the offers I've seen in the last month. Thank you for clarifying that.

  • +1

Ok today's email has spend $50 get $10 off and spend $80 get $20 off.

Seems like the less you buy for longer period of time they try entice you back with better offers!

    • Yes, that's usually the case.

It's good to see the $10 vouchers back but I won't be taking up my offer as they've increased my voucher target from $50 to $70.

  • Been getting the $10 voucher for $60 spend offers lately. Strange I don't usually get them before this. But I will wait until they drop that to $50 spend before I start using them

  • I got an email yesterday from Coles. Spend $50 get $10 off or spend $80 get $20 off

  • I hadn't used my card for about a month for any purchases greater than $10 and this week managed to get a $10 voucher offer for a $40 spend. My partner got $10 voucher for $70 so we won't be using his card for a couple of weeks. My transcation total ended up being $40.05 today. I got the $10 voucher and got $3.85 back in cash because there was a scanning error on a jar of vegemite.

  • I've had a couple of spend $90/$100 and get a $20 voucher over the past month. Just received a spend >$70 in a single transaction once a week for the next 4 weeks and they'll give me $50 of flybuys dollars.

This seems ludicrous as in nearly 4 years our grocery costs have not increased (we allocate the same amount weekly to groceries), but the flybuys program seems to be giving off more and more sweetners of considerable value.

    • Interesting, my targeted offer was spend $30+ rather than your $70+!

      • Wow $30 is brilliant. Mine is $50 and that is more than I spend per week but the $50 off at the end is tempting.

  • I have a couple of flybuys cards and received spend $50+ for 4 weeks and receive $100 off my next shop. Very good deal! Was worth not using this card for a while!

  • They must be getting desperate, I got an offer of spend $20/week for 4 weeks to get $50 Flybuys, i.e get $130 value for $80 spend. I still can't find $80 of stuff that I want.

  • My offer was spend $50 each week for 4 weeks for $100. My partner's offer was spend $50 for 4 weeks for $50. We'll be using my offer. We hadn't been using my card for a while either so there seems to be a pattern here.

  • Mine is spend $70 for 4 weeks get $100

  • They think that they are being very clever in their targeting. Aiming as keenly as Katniss, but forgetting social-media…
$100 over 4 weeks, for $100, was the exciting offer in my email yesterday.

  • yeah I got spend $70x4 weeks and get $100 off. That was pretty good as last time something similar happened was woolworths' spend $100x3 weeks to get a $20 gift card.

  • Got spend $20 over 4 weeks and get $50 off. I'm happy with my offer

  • Spend $80 each week for 4 weeks get $100 off was my offer, plus spend $10 on meat get 125 bonus fly buy points, also purchase selected products (no dollar amount) from coles bakery range and get 150 bonus fly buy points.
