Reselling iTunes cards on OzBargain - asking too much?

I often see people advertise iTunes cards in the classifieds section asking only 5 or 10% below face value.

eg: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/141053 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/141053/revisions#251598vs2…

I don't understand since we're all OzBargainers on here and about twice a year they're BOGOF at HN ($40 value per customer - bring your wife and kids) or 33% off at The Good Guys, or 25% off at a supermarket or petrol station about once a fortnight.

See: http://www.giftcardsonsale.com.au/category/itunespromos/
http://www.giftcardsonsale.com.au/tag/33-off/
http://www.giftcardsonsale.com.au/tag/50-off/

I would have thought 30-35% off would be a fair value to buy them secondhand considering some risk, paying cash, and since you can easily get 25% off, or often 33-50% off instore where you can stack other discounts like ING PayWave or FF Points using credit cards, and choose your denominations.

When I offer fair value (30-35% less) I usually get an angry response.

Thoughts?

They are probably "professionals" who broden when they are cheap and sell on here/eBay hoping to make an easy buck. Little do they know that won't ever work…

Ebay should get you around 80%. Or even higher when you have a higher value gift card.

    • Feebay?
10% commission including for postage + mandatory paypal fees

      • 10% for cost of advertising and sale to a huge base of customers… Daylight robbery right?

        • Compared to ozBargain classifieds or GumTree which are free.

        • And have a tiny sales audience in comparison. Horses for courses.

        • And therefore you can't compare how much you could see on eBay for how much another OzBargainer will pay you

      • Im taking 80% AFTER the final value fee.
There is no postage fee required. Just specify that the code will be emailed not mailed in the description.

        example

Take a look at that pricing.

        • It's quite easy to find an example to prove your point.

See this completed auction for example - 30% discount BEFORE eBay and Paypal fees.

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251451657912

        • If you have noticed, the seller made a stupid mistake of setting it to

          "Postage: Free Local Pickup"

If you look at any item with that line its always going to be a shitty sub-market price.

often 33-50% off instore where you can stack other discounts like ING PayWave or FF Points using credit cards, and choose your denominations.

Those deals are rare and usually limited. Also many people don't have an ING or a reward credit card.

As I'd only buy them at 25% off, I agree that 30-35% is fair. Even then unless it is a large amount or I desperately need an app, I'd rather just wait until another 25% off sale.

Lots of brodeners lurk here and gumtree, you won't get a fair deal. Thats why I tend to avoid the secondhand market as you have douches which are like I bought it brand new 3 years ago for $400, taken great care of it and want $350. They dont understand new technology has come out and you can get the same thing brand new for $150.(This is just an example). People like this exist be people fall into the trap that buying secondhand is always cheaper however I find it's often a timewaste and your receiving pre-owned no warranty goods.

I stick to brand new stuff as much as possible or refurbs from rebutable companies. Similar to those idiots which trawl verge collections then try and sell rotten chairs/ old electronic goods for like $20 bucks at flea markets when the real market value is closer to $0.50, there is a reason they are wearing 5 year old clothes and smell peculiar. They don't understand the free market and business. Also some people value their own time very poorly and enjoy wasting hours waiting for a buyer which will pay $5 more for a product.

Your comment is mainly about selling used items. Gift cards pretty much keep their value and the popular ones like itunes, dse, jb hifi etc. are usually sold with less of a discount.

Though it is surprising that there are those who try to sell for less than 20% discount in the classifieds section on a website that where users post 20% off itunes every now and then.

Understand JB, dse etc but WHO pays full price for iTunes cards to begin with?
