What does next day guaranteed delivery really mean?

Just trying to understand what does next day guaranteed delivery really mean?
I ordered a scanner from officeworks on Friday and was promised Monday delivery (guaranteed).
Got nothing on Monday (was not so surprised).
Called them this morning (Tuesday) just to hear that I should call them if I did not get my scanner by COB Wednesday.
Tried to get an explanation on what "guaranteed delivery" means for OfficeWorks and gave up after 5 min of going around the same question and no answer. Basically the blamed Toll who failed to deliver.

In my opinion - I engaged in contract with OfficeWorks, not TOLL so it should be their responsibility.

Again, my question is - what does next day guaranteed delivery really mean? and what should I do or expect when they fail to deliver?

it all depends on the time u placed the order and their conditions…
if u placed the order say Friday after their deadline , it counts as you placed the order on monday, thus anytime today would be " next day delivery"
did they actually say monday when you ordered ? if you paid any money for shipping , i would expect it back if so, at the minimum.

  • I ordered around midday on Friday.
On my order it says Monday delivery.
I did not pay for delivery (order above $55).
I do not need that scanner urgently so I am quite relaxed about the delivery situation but want to clarify what guaranty actually mean and if I can escalate in a similar situation in a future?
    not only with OfficeWorks.
just want to understand if such claim posts any financial responsibility.

    • What would be your goal outcome here if you did escalate?

Would you just want a "sorry about that"? Which when dealing with an outside courier is pretty much all you'd get (if you look at OW's limit of involvement here, they did send the package in time from what I'm reading here).
Are you more looking for a discount? This probably wouldn't happen, really. But you could always give it a shot.
Or would you just be looking to complain?

      • I actually agree with Atlant here. I think it's sneaky to assert next day delivery when it's so unlikely that the item will actually arrive on the next day. The OW cannot actually guarantee next day delivery, then they need to switch couriers or remove the assertion.

        I smell ACCC.

i want to see where this next day delivery guaranteed is … i looked (briefly) but could not find it ? i find where it says next day delivery ,b ut no guarantee ?

        • Good point. I guess it depends on whether or not this is an isolated case or not.

        • i want to see where this next day delivery guaranteed is … i looked (briefly) but could not find it ? i find where it says next day delivery ,b ut no guarantee?

as soon as i read OP's whinge i pretty much guessed this. even if it was a "guarantee" they would have a heap of fine print associated with it which would say something to the effect of "we dont actually guarantee the guarantee because its out of our hands, we will just do our best"

I do not need that scanner urgently so I am quite relaxed about the delivery situation

i think that also says a lot.

from what i know, Officeworks have same day delivery for stocked items, with orders placed before noon. maybe even 11am. Meaning you are correct in expecting it on Monday. Unfortunately, without knowing the drivers run-sheet and every thought process, it's genuinely not Officeworks fault. We use Toll everyday at work. and theres been many issues and miscommunication which have put us in shit.

Aust Post site explains what their express post next day delivery conditions are.
(not saying that ow are using ap, just a reference point for research)
Common sense actually… Depends on when you lodge it and your location… :-(

If you order anything on a Friday afternoon then don't expect delivery on Monday … it wont get collected until Monday afternoon…. then delivery time will depend on where you are located.

Not rocket science and definitely not one for the ACCC…. DOH!!

    • dunno why you copped so many negs yet no one dared try and point out where your wrong (caus from what i know of aus posts "next day" its far from it, took almost a week last time i used it)

Not rocket science and definitely not one for the ACCC…. DOH!!

sadly common sense isnt very common any more…..

    • agreed. +1 to you. Not sure why you have so many negs. Common sense failed on these neggers

  • It depends on the time the post office receives the parcel. If it is received on Monday, then it will be delivered on Tuesday. If I am not mistaken, the 'guarantee' part means that if it doesn't get delivered by Tuesday, postage cost can be claimed back.

In this case, you don't have any claim whatsoever because you do not pay for any delivery fee in the first place and it is Officeworks who has a contract with Australia Post.
