Bargain backpack

In light of this deal which fell through for many OzBargainers (including myself), I was wondering if anyone could suggest a similar pack for a comparable or lower price.

Basically just want something that's comfortable and reasonably compact. Will mostly be using for Uni (including laptop transport) but will also be used for occasional hiking and day trips.

Recommendations would be appreciated.

  • High Sierra Access backpack. Reviews: http://www.amazon.com/High-Sierra-Access-Pack-Black/dp/B000H…

It sells for $40 ~ 50 AUD here. Tough enough for hiking and light enough for commutes.

  • I use the Timbuk2 Q Laptop Backpack for my uni travels.

I think it cost me $75 shipped from Wiggle UK last year. Before that I was using $30 Nike backpacks from Rebel Sport and you can really tell the difference in quality. I did a lot of research before buying this particular bag so I'll just point some things out.

    • Dedicated laptop and charger compartments - eliminates the need for a laptop sleeve but I still use one.
    • Internal organiser - great for pens and small notepad. Fits my portable battery too.
    • There's a net compartment too - very good for cables and other accessories.
    • Padded straps - really comfortable and adjustable too.
    • Side handle - can hold like suitcase too.
    • Bottle opener - self explanatory.

Overall, it might be more expensive but it is worth it in the long run. If the Q backpack is not for you, check out the whole Timbuk2 range of bags.
