Design & Build a PC OzB Style

I’ve been looking at the Raspberry Pi lately and thinking about the process that went into bringing the device to market.

What would readers opinion be of the cheapest and most efficient way to make a computer like a beefed up Pi and have a factory manufacture it?

What sort of costs would be involved in a small run production? How would you select a manufacturer?

  • Go to reddit and ask about this in Askreddit… Im sure there are some kickstarter veterans who can hook you up with some industry knowledge in manufacturing.

  • have a look at cubieboard

without knowing your requirements i'm thinking someone out there might have something close

  • I think running old hardware is the way to go. For example, up until recently, I was running a 10 year old processor. Handled everything (except games and high rendering) like a champ.

Maybe you wouldn't even need a manufacturer. You could buy/salvage old computers with relatively good specs, and recycle the parts :D
That would be the true ozbargain way.

Then again, it wouldn't be very reliable…

Buy old tablets and smartphones, salvage their logic boards?

  • Don't bother… It took years of negotiations with hardware vendors for the pi to become reality. If you need something minimal get the AMD A4 APU and work from there if you ask me.
