I bought mine from here a while before they were sold in Australia.

      It was stock Motorola firmware.

    • +1

Eglobal as a grey store is supposed to be okay. It's the warranty issues you gotta worry about

  • Hmm, which frequencies does it support? Are they the same as the ones sold in AU?

    • +1

It supports all telstra and optus freequencys in both GSM and 3G.

No, as far as I know they don't sell the 16GB in Australia.

    • soz, i added details to the original post

  • +1

eGlobal are DWI and you know how DWI are like with mobiles.

  • I bought one from here a while ago, it arrived quickly.

However the warranty is sketchy because you can't send it back via normal postage methods because it has a lithium battery, and after the 45 day mark PayPal is unable to be of any assistance.

But luckily I haven't had any faults with mine and its still just as fast as the day I got it, not quite as snappy as my old Nexus 4 but I needed it for the dual sims.

  • +13

4G LTE global ver. was just announced 2days ago. Moto listened to all the complaints & added micro sd support! Apparently its going to be priced around $219USD which equates to ~$250AUD which is what it is selling for now at AU retailers.

Going to hurry & sell my dual sim 3G (got at JB for $220) before they drop the price significantly.

Worth the upgrade just for the ext. mem support. Will go well with the 64GB samsung micro sd from the SE deal.

    • it will be released very early June - probably the reason for this price drop

      • Early June launch is for the USA, June 30th is for the UK - source CNET, and considering Australia is so far far away we may need to wait even longer…

        • Ah, didn't we get the Moto G before everyone else? Or was that another phone….

    • Does that mean it supports every global 4G freequency? I thought there was too many of them (like 16+ or something).

      • There will be 2 versions, US & global w/ each supporting frequencies relevant in those countries.

        • Thanks for the reply, also any idea if the 4G and expandable memory one will be avalible with dual sim slots?

        • If they are following the same plan as the release of the 3G ver. au/oceania should only have the dual sim variant avail.

Will have to wait until they release more details as anything atm is just speculation.

        • Unlikely to be dual sim, because if you look at the 4g version manual, the second sim slot is taken up by the new microsd card slot.
          See page 4

        • That is for the US 4G ver. They may have revised the HW for the EU/AU ver. which would add an extra slot (3 in total).

        • +1

really? is that confirmed yet? Dual sim + microsd card would be great.

        • +1

          Like I said ^^^,

Will have to wait until they release more details as anything atm is just speculation.

sorry, missed that part…skimming through posts and comments in the middle of the night feeding my ozbargain addiction.

    • ~$250 would be optimistic I think. Ausdroid had a post on it recently (as they attended a moto e launch event in Australia) and they mentioned it might be near the $299 mark when it launches here. (unfortunately, Ausdroid's website is down at the moment)
      ausdroid article google cache link

      • If it's going to be near $300 might was well pay that little bit extra for a Xperia Z (original).

        • Or for a nexus.

    • Despite the US$219 price tag, saw an article with the guy from Motorola Australia saying he expects them to RRP for ~AU$350 in June. For that sort of money, makes you think it's worth the bit extra for a Nexus..

      Edit: Found the article.. http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/545047/official_motoro…

  • why couldn't you just be happy with 8GB with local Au warranty for about $210 at this moment (The Good Guys, Officeworks pricematch)?

    • $207.10 at Officeworks, after price matching The Good Guys ($218)

    • GG had the 30% off deal back in March, so it was $176 AUD (local AU warranty).

The new model (4G with microSD support) is going to be quite attractive.

    • The diff between 8GB and 16GB if your using something like spotify on it is massive. The OS takes up about half the space on the 8GB.

I question why you need a warrenty on a 185 dollar phone.

      • +4

        I want a warranty on a $50 phone

      • +4

Because I don't want to throw $185 away on something breaking within a year? How is that hard to understand? O_o

        • What phones are you buying that break within a year?

        • +1

Sony Xperia Z. But being more fragile than a crappy iPhone isn't covered under the Oz warranty.

        • +2

Every phone I've had of various makes is either still in use or has kept working until they were obsolete and given away. You must be unlucky or rough on phones.

        • Yes, because technology never dies and there is no such thing as DOA..

        • DOA you can deal with by PayPal in the last resort. Mine arrived within a week. Phone dying after use is just another risk, so you can either choose to self-insure by putting the savings towards a replacement, or pay a local retailer for your peace of mind. Your choice. It came in a stock package BTW so DWI hasn't increased the risk above Moto's. The only thing they added was a power adapter.

  • Am thinking about getting one of these but quick question:

My current phone has a mini SIM and I notice this has a micro SIM. How do I go about switching from one SIM to another and still keep the same phone number? I'm on pre-paid with OPTUS if that makes a difference.

Solution: Just found out that I'd just have to go to an OPTUS store and they'll switch SIMs over for me.

    • +2

Or you could just get busy with a pair of scissors. I've done it twice and it really isn't that hard. Just download a template, draw your cuts on in pencil and you'll be right.

      • Yeah, I just read you could do that - might give it a go.

        • Or if you walk pass an Optus store just ask them to cut it for you

      • Ya, mine looks a mess but it fits. Just remember that it's better to cut too little than too much, so leave a bit extra and test/recut a couple of times.

    • Haven't done it in a few years, but switching your account to a different SIM by logging in over the net takes literally a few seconds. It was super easy. Pity their network is not as good as everything else is very good.

  • What is this website like to deal with? good customer service? and what about warranty in AU?

    • Touch and go. 80% of the time everything works out fine. But if you're unlucky it could take ages and as people have pointed out getting warranty from these chaps can be a pita.

  • Pretty good for a cheap up to date android phone.

  • Somehow, I cannot get the $50 discount. Could the deal be over?

    • +1

Well I bought one. The $50 only appears after you get to the very last screen. You have to go through the whole PayPal checkout (with it saying $210) before the discount is applied.

Don't know why they do it like that…seems kind of backwards.

  • +1

This is a great deal for a great phone. I'm posting from it now. It's the ONLY choice if you want kit Kat and dual Sim as far as I know. I had the 8gb ver but couldn't store any games on it. 16gb very is the best phone on the market IMHO. Can someone tell me why 4G even matters - when mobile data is so expensive abywa I use this phone as a hotspot for all my internet devices (Optus $2 fails 500mb- cheapest mobile Internet I know of), and didn't notice any real difference when using a 4g xperia ultra.

    • +1

I am using optus 4g at the moment and I would never go back. The 3g network is oversubscribed compared to 4g so anythingweb based is so much more responsive. My wife thought the same and just got a 3g phone and now she wishes she followed my lead.

  • Can you use this phone to tether ? USB or Wireless

  • +1

All phones should tether (usb or wireless). For me It tethers very well and doesn't drop out like some do.

  • Just remember your consumer rights.

  • Just purchased this, was skeptical at first especially with their weird payment, eventually it did deduct $50.00 though.

    Will keep everyone updated.

    • Hi "Need a dollar"… I try to purchase one, but they have included shipping cost of $58.70 on check-out???

  • So it's a dual sim mobile. Can I use both sim cards at same time or I have to manually switch over?
Can someone please confirm if you can turn Mobile Data on one sim and disable another?
    Thanks.

    • +1

Dual Sim means you can have two sim cards in at the one time, you can receive calls/text from both.

Yes, I'm sure you can turn mobile data on/off separately . This phones perfect for business/personal use simultaneously

      • Thank you.
Looks like a perfect phone for both, personal/business.
        Will get one to try.

  • +1

Both sims (ie. phone nos.) are active for voice, but only one can be used for data; must be dedicated. You can switch/assign which one does data in settings.

    • Thank you.
That's exactly what I want, both for voice and txt, only one used for data.
      Cheers.

    • spot on - what this means is that only 1 connection can be 3g the other drops down to 2g
so this dual sim phone would be completely useless as a dual sim phone in places where there are no 2g networks (ie. Japan)

I learnt this one first hand

  • +1

Just bought one with the blue case for my mom, paid total 190 aud. She is currently using Iphone 3GS so I guess she would be very happy with this phone (hopefully haha). I think this phone is a steal definitely. Perfect phone for mom i suppose. Thanks OP.

  • +1

How do these stack up against Nexus 5's and the presumed specs of Nexus 6?

  • If you use this with 1 sim does it still keep a notification at the top of another sim?

    • How do you mean? The missing SIM shows as a disabled icon if that's what you mean.

      • That's what Pleasure_Paulie means.

  • I decided on the Officeworks price match option and so far so good.

  • -3

Thanks OP. I price-matched this at OW (for some reason the total price was $188 delivered), so got it for $178ish. Used ING paywave to get an extra 5% off. Bought the extra 2 year replacement warranty for $23, so total cost for me was around $193. Unfortunately it's the 8GB model but at least if anything goes wrong, I could get a new phone, or store credit for the next price match :)

    • Unfortunately it's the 8GB model

So you priced matched a 16GB model for an 8GB one???

      • 9.75% off and local warranty isn't too bad if you don't need the extra 8GB, I guess.

      • So you priced matched a 16GB model for an 8GB one???

So can you find a retailer that sells the 8GB model cheaper than $185 delivered (for OW price beat)???

        • Just confused as I thought OW price match is only for like items.

  • +2

You would have to be crazy to buy from eglobal to save just a few dollars. The 8gB models are available for not much more ($220) from Aussie retailers with proper support. eGlobal are dishonest and do NOT honour warranty. I bought a waterproof Nikon camera with a supposed 24 month warranty. Last year, 14 months after I bought it, the camera leaked. I had to return it to Hong Kong and have never seen it since. In short they created damage to say I had abused the unit, unbelievable. Never again they are a nightmare. Did what I should have done in the first place and bought another from a local retailer.

    • +1

I agree with what you say for an expensive item like you bought. But for a $185 phone? If it works out of the box I'm really not worried about a warranty. It's kind of a throwaway item.

Still, bummer for you because it sounds like you had a sucky experience with them…I hope I don't.

  • I tried to buy one but they have included shipping cost $58.70????
Has anyone bought one with the price advertised as $185.00 shipped??

    Thanks.

    • I believed it may be because 100 units were claimed already.

    • I did get one for $185 shipped though had to un-tick some type of delivery insurance which had upped the price a few dollars. Perhaps the deal is done because $58 certainly isn't a deal!?

  • +1

I got my Moto G just now, the delivery is just awesomely fast. Took me five days from the day I made the order. And the phone is just absolutely fantastic. Came with KitKat 4.4.2, fast like hell, camera is ok, good display. I would say MOTO G is another version of Nexus 4 (but with better battery life). 3G is not a matter to me coz this is a gift for my mom in my hometown (overseas) where 4G is just not yet out. For 185 bucks, this is a massive steal that I have ever made haha. 16GB is huge for those who don't use much storage for movies. Just wanna thank OP once again. This is awesome haha.

Received mine yesterday too and all is good. Works as expected so I'm a happy chappy.
