OOpsticals eyeware store - Genuine or Dodgy?

Hi OzBargainers,

My sister in law recently wanted to get a new pair of Chanel sunglasses and found this particular site had them for quite a bit cheaper than everywhere else (including US sites).

http://oopsticals.com/

This site is hosted in the US but the company seems to be based in Sydney according to its website.

There were quite a few alarm bells raised when I saw the site such as no ABN, no contact phone number and the fact that it has a decent discount on brands such as Chanel, which to my understanding, do not allow its retailers to discount their products.

Their facebook page has 349 likes but no reviews or comments from anyone, which makes me nervous to the integrity of those likes.

On the other hand there were a few things that made me think it may be a genuine new business such as the use of PayPal and the website doesn't look like your run of the mill dodgy replica bag site.

My question is, does anyone here know about this site and have any experience with them? Or, if you have other methods to identify the integrity of this site I would very much like to hear from you.

Cheers

I can't really comment about the frame discounting as that is not my area of expertise. There are a few things that the site has going for it:

    • You can see the founders/owners/operators in the about me page
    • The owner's information matches up with the whois
    • Their prices don't seem too far off what they are going for on other sites (not sure about the discounting)
    • Say they are located in Sydney CBD which is unlikely if they are online only, meaning they are probably drop-shipping
    • Owner's name seems to be legitimate (although some people don't mind putting their names to scams)

    What is going against it:

    • Potentially fake phone number on the whois (ends in '1234')
    • Have not registered the '.com.au' domain yet
    • Owner has previous ABN that was cancelled in June 2013
    • Do not seem to have an ABN
    • Thanks Dumax,

Even at the discounted price, the sunglasses will cost $330, which is still quite a bit of money (savings are about $170 to the OPSM price). I think the risks of getting fake or even nothing is still quite evident so I might tell her to hold off unless others here have had good experiences.
