I've been to the opening in Sunnybank and waited for 2 hours. It isn't worth waiting for. Thanks anyway.

  • +3

Yeah the Indro line was massive too. Nice ramen but not worth the wait.

  • +5

Just go on your birthday, it's free and you don't have to be in a massive line.

  • Good ramen and gyoza

  • +1 good ramen

  • Other 4 Brisbane stores are on Great Circle (598/599) bus route - handy for lots of free Birthday ramen (photo ID) for the hungry without transport.

Enjoyed 3 days of free ramen at Garden City store.

Like ramen chain shops in Japan - similar quality & taste, Japanese staff. Importantly, has feel of Japanese ramen shops. Tonkotsu pork bone broth is simmered for 39 hours. FREE noodle refill.

Top: Noticed store closed early when ramen ran out.

  • Anyone been to Hakata (Fukuoka) in Japan and care to compare? LOVE hakata ramen, but get so disappointed when it's not similar!

    • I have been and another locations in japan, but its not up to par with its home town. I visited the Sunnybank one in brisbane and didnt taste that fresh

It's so-so ramen (not that rich, flavour), but damnit, it's almost the best Australia can offer at the moment. Canberra has zilch so this is as close to the feel of my local ramen-ya I can get when I visit Brisbane. They do kaedama (noodle refill) as well, which is sweet. Price is also reasonable which I feel is a big problem with Japanese food. For some reason it is seen as a premium price food when ramen and gyoza should be a $10 meal

  • I want to wear the Original staff t-shirt on opening day and get 50% off gyoza

    • +2

If you go to Garden City shop, the Gyoza is always $3.50 (50% off)

      • Thanks but I still want to wear their Original staff t-shirt on opening day

        • You're Hakataya Otaku, aren't you?

  • Worth trying or should I stick with Taro's?

    • +2

Isn't Taro's like twice the price with no free noodle refill?

      • Yes but i'm willing to pay more for good quality, and Taro's is really good.

So $20+ for ramen? I love ramen, but that is crazy talk.

I swear to God, with Aussies loving their laksa's and pho's, I am stumped as to why ramen hasn't taken off. I have heard there is a few good places in Sydney, so maybe we are in the first stages before critical mass is reached (fingers crossed). It is really taking off in California.

Best ramen I had in Japan was in the mountains of Ehime while on a weekend rafting trip. The roast pork … dear lord the roast pork and the broth … I think I just dribbled a bit.

Then there was the time a dude from my office drove me two and a half hours to go eat here:

That piggy was pretty happy considering he was serving up his brethren.

My (unresearched) theory is that it takes ages for people to get used to new words.
In my (non-asian) social circles (in Brisbane) I often hear people talking about laksa. How they love laksa or had a good laksa for lunch or theres some new place they discovered that does laksa. I never hear them talk about Pho. I assume the word is relatively newer to the general populous? and I imagine ramen is even newer.

Actually IMO, I've only started seeing lots of good new Japanese places aside from sushi trains, popup in the last couple of years, and more recently … slowly more Korean places.

I agree 20$ for soup noodles is crazy talk! :)

This is way better than Taro!

  • I've been to the sunnybank one. It's actually pretty good. I would compare it to some of syds better joints like menya.

  • Hakataya is so [insert whatever].. Tried them twice and both times I couldn't even finish the first serve of noodle so free noodle refill is redundant to me.

My number 1 ramen place in Australia is still Ryo's Noodle near Crows Nest, Sydney. In Ryo's I usually have two serves of noodle and some curry rice too.

Taro in Brisbane is not bad but personally I prefer thicker ramen noodles than the thin ones they use.

  • can't wait for my birthday!

  • I love Hakataya Ramen but rather pay for it and not wait in a massive queue for a free one. Though I will be in the city Friday night and if the queue is not too long I would come to enjoy a free ramen.

  • Anyone know any other ramen shops in Brisbane? Please let me know, I really enjoy Ramen. Thanks

    • Taro's. Unlike most places he actually makes his own noodles, with different noodles for different broths.

  • Before we start the munch, let's take a moment to honour all those piggies that will give up their lives to give us that free meal.

  • They are sold out for today.
