Brazil Mogiana

Roast: Medium/ Medium Dark
This coffee is produced by the Carvalho Dias and Ottoni families, who have repeatedly won the Cup of Excellence status in Brazil. For over 100 years and four generations these families have treated the land, the people, and the bean right, and it certainly shows in the cup! This natural coffee has a wonderful smooth and round body, sweet acidity, and a clean aftertaste with notes of peanut butter, very sweet, clean fruit and berries.
Cupping Notes: – The “nuttiest” of our coffees, the Brazil Mogiana boasts a smooth dark chocolate finish with hints of malt and berry. This is an excellent morning or evening brew.

We are lucky to have been able to source a beautiful lot of Bourbon from the Plan del Guayabo Estate in New Oriente, Guatemala. Below are some detailed notes from our coffee buyer stationed in Guatemala:
Located around 1675 metres above sea level the property can receive up to 1500 milimetres of rain per year. This is in fact what makes Guatemalan coffees so unique the high altitudes, diverse microclimates, consistent rainfall patterns, and excellent cultivation and processing, hence producing a variety of distinctive types of Guatemalan arabica coffees.

The current owner of the property is Mr. Benjamin Donado. The Donado family has been in the coffee business since the year 1990, when they started to plant coffee on the property. Before this time nobody tried to plant coffee in the micro region because there was a belief that the land was only viable for forestry considering the high elevations and steepness of the terrain were a deterrent to planting. Mr. Donado thought otherwise and planted coffee, proving to be a great decision.
Coffee lovers have benefited ever since because the coffee produces one of the most complex cups that we have tried from the region. The flowering period for the Bourbon variety is between the months of April and May meaning the harvest can take place between January and March. The beans are pulped, fermented in 100% natural water in tanks for up to 2 days and then 100% sun-dried giving the coffee a bright, well balanced and full body with notes of sweet honey, touches of floral and apple.

ATTENTION: Please leave notes in Paypal specifying coffee selections. If no notes are left, a random selection will be sent as default.

website is a bit contradictory… banner above says shipping capped at $6.95 and free over $50, yet this promo is capped at $9.95.

    • +3

This is a fixed banner for all our standard website sales however we have created a special deal page to bring our Ozbargainers this cheaper pricing. Banner can't be changed as shipping costs need to be outlined for all standard website sales.

  • hi there. would you do any deals for an aeropress and 250g of your beans shipped to Sydney Metro.
What beans do you recommend for aeropress? I like mine coffee long black and like nutty or fruity flavour.
    Costa Rica Micepa sounds good…

Sure why not. $39.95 + $11.95 shipping :-) Please just send money through Paypal to [email protected] and leave notes.

  • Hi have loved my manna beans
was interested in this deal. could not find on the website, could you please direct me where to look

    with thanks

    Hi mannabeans,

I have had a few different beans from you over the years and my favourite by far has been indian tiger mountain A, some I have not really liked at all. Out of the above options what would you recommend if I am a big fan of indian tiger mountain?

    • +1

Hey Chief, sounds like you could be a milk based coffee drinker? Tiger Mountain is quite strong with good body and acidity to cut through the milk. I'm personally a fan of the Brazil Fazenda Recreio, perhaps give the Guatemala a go as this is quite strong and good for milk coffee or the Brazilians which tend to be more chocolatey and caramel notes.

      • Thanks for that - have put in an order for the Guatemala then

    • +1

Yeah TG Mountain A is very nice….Probably one of the nicest was also PNG A or rather something as well and Honduras….

  • I need to stock up on the decaf, are you able to do provide something?
I'm still enjoying your coffee and haven't touched the supermarket stuff for years now, thanks for the great service btw.

    • Thanks burnstar, please shoot me an email

  • Actually, the difficult part is getting the raw beans (about$10/kg) Roasting is easy. Use a wo, keep it moving. Fresh beans on demand…..

    • The art of roasting is anything but easy according to the artesian roasters I've spoken to in the past.

Before the age of cheap high quality delivered coffee beans, I used to buy from a lovely Italian born roaster who was taught to roast by his father by "feel". Brilliant coffee. There was this one time though, I bought my normal mix of medium and darkly freshly roasted beans, ground some up and made it the normal way. I was rather dissapointed. Bitter, thin and hollow. This repeated with other brew methods. When I returned to the store, I mentioned this and found out he was on a holiday in Italy and their backup roaster had stepped in.

Of course, this is only one story, but at a high level, surly bringing a bean to such a high temperature without burning it isn't easy?

  • Hi Rep, are we able to have the beans ground before delivery? Cheers.

    • +3

      Why oh why

    • +1

Hi Nostril, very sorry but we're unable to offer a grinding service with this deal. Option is available through normal website listings but I'm happy to help if you wish to chat about grinders.

Well worth an investment as it will give you better results with extraction quality and keep the coffee fresher for longer.

  • Hello, just wondering what your recommendation is for an aeropress? I do make it with soy milk too…I tend to like the Mexican single origin beans :)

    • +1

Hi Missmelb, the Mexican's tend to be smooth and creamy. Perhaps give the Brazil Fazenda Recreio a go :-)

  • Hi mannabeans.
    Loyal fan of coffee here.
Interested in getting 1 kg of Costa Rica Micepa and 1 kg of Brazil Mogiana.
Would you be able to package them in 500 gram bags so I can split with my friend?
    Thanks.

    • Hi Bargdebag, appreciate your loyalty ;-) Happy to include additional empty valved resealable bags with your order for $1 each. Please leave notes in Paypal. Cheers

      • I don't suppose they work with a vacuum sealer?

        • Sorry but I have no experience with vacuum sealers. There's nothing stopping you vacuum sealing the coffee beans with a food sealer though.

Thanks manna beans! Both the surprise free sample (Brazil Daterra Estate) and the Guatemala Finca El Caballo are delicious!

  • Thanks for the coffee guys!!

CP delivery came on Tuesday, sample was a nice suprise!

  • I've bought Brazil Farzenda from another place before, therefore hoping this would be good as it is my favourite, and also saw other's comments saying it's good. Unfortunately I was fairly disappointed. First of all I have to say your service was good, prompt delivery, and good gesture with the bonus packet of beans, so thanks for that.

I gave it 3 goes just to make sure it wasn't me. The beans look dull as though it wasn't roasted properly. The smell wasn't exactly pleasent as I normally love the smell of coffee beans, it gave off this kind of a artificial smell. Okay, on to the actual coffee. The taste was also kind of weird and same thing as if it was kind of 'artificial'… Other than that, it didn't really taste like good coffee to me, and it was very watery in taste. I'm sure it's not the way I made the coffee because my other coffee are just amazing… as I said I've also tasted this 3 times to make sure it wasn't just my coffee making skills. My wife has similar opinion. I'm not sure if something went wrong with the roasting or what, but this particular one both me and my wife would give it 3/10.

Anyway this is my personal opinion, but maybe others think differently. I was disappointed and because I bought 1kg of it, now it's going in the bin unfortunately.

    • Thanks for the feedback and sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy this particular coffee :-) I've just tried the end of the batch of Fazenda Laranjal which was the same one we shipped out and it appears to be as it should be as far as the roasting profile. I managed to get a good extraction with decent flavours and strength.

There are a wide selection of Brazil Fazenda varietal each with their own unique characteristics so it may just be one that's not best suited to your tastes.

From a logistical perspective just to clarify that after roasting the coffees need about 4 days to degas and allow the flavours to develop fully so if shipped express it can often be the case that you receive the coffees after only 1-2 days and this could also be a possible explanation.

      • Thanks for the reply. The specific one I got is 'Brazil Fazenda Recreio Microlot Cup Of Excellence 2008 & 2013 – Washed'. I got it last Wednesday and the last time I tried it was this morning so I would think this is the perfect time for it and fresh.

Maybe you could give this one a try? I'd like to know if others are experiencing the same problem. I mean it didn't even taste normal, it was a bit 'off' if you know what I mean.

        • Ok thanks, if that's the case then yes it would be within the perfect window for drinking at its optimum state. Unfortunately I don't have any more of the Recreio to test.

Usually this is quite a popular coffee and I wasn't aware of an issue with the roasting of this bean. I Would be interested to hear from anyone else that has some feedback regarding this coffee.

  • Well I still got the nearly full 1kg bag I can send it back to you to test if you like. If you find it normal then keep the money, but seriously if you find it bad can I please have my money back or get it replaced?

All I want is a decent cup of coffee, and wasnt prepared to pay $30 for something I'm going to bin.

    Thanks.

    • I wasn't aware of any issues with this coffee so it would certainly be nice to have a small sample to test. If you're happy to send me a couple of hundred grams back in the valved bag it came in to enable us to test the roast then I would be more than happy to ship you a 1kg bag of a different coffee as a gesture of goodwill :-)

      • Thanks for your help, that's very kind of you. I'll send it to you and hopefully you can taste what I taste and you'll know what I mean ! Cheers

      • Okay, so after a few more days (approx 5-7 days) and I've tried it a few more times, the weird artificial taste/smell have actually disappeared completely.

        Thanks for your help.

        • No problem, that's quite strange. Sounds like it could be an issue with equipment rather than coffee. Is the water of your machine coming through clear as it could be something like a burnt element where the machine has been heating without sufficient water!? Or cross contamination somehow with equipment or a bad extraction (under extracted can cause sourness and over extracted can cause bitterness.

Other cause can be under developed coffee as previously mentioned during the first 4 days before coffee degases to allow flavours to develop fully

        • I don't think so because I top up the water tank every time before I make coffee. I think the water comes through clear but I'll double check. Also as I said it was in the smell of the whole beans before I put it through the machine. But I think you may be right that it takes about 4 days to degas, and it took a tad longer in this case.

  • Cant say much for your new "Courier Please" service. Order was made 24th May (a Saturday I know…so I wasnt expecting it to be roasted until Monday) Unfortunately, it has yet to be delivered as of today (a Tuesday a week later). Tracking says it has been sitting at the depot since the 30th. I preferred your 2 day express to Perth with Australia Post! We have had to buy nasty grocery store beans to tide us over. :( (First world problems I know …)

    Tracking ID 13600932804

    • Sorry to hear, I'll follow was up with the courier company for you in the morning.

We haven't changed our transport company, we only used courier as a one off for this deal as listed but back to normal Aus Post Express for all future orders.

    • I have just spoken with the courier and I need to grab your details to be able to open an investigation. Please email me with your name so I can look up your order and follow up further. Thanks

No problem with my delivery .. all the way to Hobart Tasmania.
My place is a bit hard to find usually as well .. Australia Post Couriers often leave my parcels at the wrong abode but was not an issue with Couriers Please :)
Took only a few days overall, and from tracking information it appears to have been transported by road from Brisbane to Port Melbourne, and then subsequently shipped via Spirit of Tasmania ferry to D'port .. then courier vehicle once again from the port town to Hobart.
So inevitably a tad slower than an express service using Air Transport ! But that's no biggie.
Still very fast given all of the mileage involved.
Great product .. well packaged .. and very happy with all aspects of service and delivery :)
    thanks

    • Great to hear and thanks for taking the time to post your feedback. Hope you have a great weekend ;-)
