Mario Kart 8 Promotion

Hi all,

Nintendo is running a promotion where you get one of 10 free games with the purchase of Mario Kart 8. The details are here: http://gamesites.nintendo.com.au/mk8_bonus/

I was wondering if you guys think it would be possible to buy two copies of Mario Kart 8 and get two free games, downloaded to the one Wii U system? That way you would have double the stars. Some of the games on the list are still full priced. I can't see anything in the terms and conditions that explicitly mention this, so I assume it would be possible. Thanks!

Edit:

It seems you don't get Stars for the free, downloaded game. Has anyone noticed this?

Also, you can't redeem Stars for two copies of Mario Kart into the same Club Nintendo account. Has anyone been able to do this?

  • Yes, if it's using different user accounts. You need to claim the coupon inside MK8 on the CLub Nintendo site, which is linked to your account. Then you get a free game

  • But you can only have one account linked to your WiiU, no? Meaning that you couldn't get both games unless you had twoo Wii Us.

    • Yeah.. hmm… so pretty much, the way OP wants to do it is impossible.

      • I have four accounts on my WiiU? You just need to use different Club Nintendo accounts to claim them.

        • How you do that? If so, then OP's plan is actually great… you can resell your second MK8 copy too and get another game… basically 4 games for the cost of two.

        • Just make other accounts on it. I have one for me, my wife and two older kids. All have separate NNIDs and linked Club accounts.

        • -1

So do you need to switch between accs. each time you want to 'play' the game linked to the acc it was claimed/attached to or can you just DL the game & change back to your main one? In other words is there authorisation going on when the game runs?

You could potentially buy as many copies of MK8 to claim all the games you want/avail.

          resell your second MK8 copy

You'd want to wait till the promo period is over before doing that or there will be some pretty disgruntled buyers after they buy & find out that they can't claim their free game!

        • Once you download a game on a nintendo platform, just like the other consoles it's available on the home screen for the whole console.

  • It doesn't say anywhere that you need a Wii u to participate in this promotion. All you need to do is register the code that comes with the game on the club Nintendo site, pick your game and a download code will be emailed to you. There is nothing stopping you from having more than one club Nintendo account and getting more free games.

    • Edit: Actually read the OP so comment was made redundant.

    • Actually; I believe you need to actually REDEEM the code to download the game! My email from Nintendo says that the code will expire on the 31st if I haven't redeemed the free code. Gee thanks guys.

  • I can see people abusing eb games' 7 day return policy for some codes

    • No can do - it's in the fine print:

"The Satisfaction Returns benefit excludes any product with an online activation code and/or DLC content"

      • +2

It has neither of those though. Online activation codes and DLC are both very different.

  • It looks like we can claim two copies of Mario Kart 8 but they have to be under separate Club Nintendo accounts.

  • During the period of May 29th through June 1st, MK8 has managed to sell 1.2 million copies around the world

    • I was trying to find the release figures for Watch Dogs to compare the two and be a typically cynical dick; but Ubisoft apparently wasn't comfortable releasing it. So let's just pretend Mariokart was better.

      • Actually Watch Dogs outsold it, by a lot. W_D though was released on 5 platforms.

        • Goes to show people will buy anything these days. The videogames crash of the E.T. era will never happen again.

        • It sold over 4 million copies.

Though your comment makes no sense.

Buy anything? Its a great game. Why would you not want to buy and play a great game?

As much as I appreciate McFuzz's love of the old school Nintendo you must realize he shows massive fanboi tendencies at times.

Watch Dogs is great, I've played many hours of both of these games already and will play many more of both.

        • Having not played it, I'm just going off reading Metacritic, and 4.6 to 6.3 (PS4 gets the highest score of all platforms with a STAGGERING 6.3) maximum across the board isn't really worth 60-80 bucks. Average games like Wolfenstein are getting 8 with no effort. And Mariokart is just Mariokart, and it still got 9.2 and not many people even have a Wii-U to know what it's like. Watch_Dogs is probably the only AAA game I've ever seen with ONLY negative reviews on the front review page of its steam store page, which says a lot.

Not a Nintendo fanboy, just a huuuuuge gaming hipster with very high standards. Minecraft is overrated, man! I was playing Dwarf Fortress before it was cool, man! Goat Simulator is so underground!

          Or whatever hipsters say.

Mate you're the only person on the net who takes metacritic user scores seriously. The game has a 82 critic review (MK8 scores just .6 higher)
Take note of how many 10's and 0's PS and Xbox games get. These are fanbois and trolls shooting down the opposition and bolstering up their favored consoles scores.
Watch Dogs got a rough time on Steam due the screwed up release, the game didn't work, the price was raised considerably days before release.

Use the critic reviews as a guide only and make the final decision yourself. Don't be blinkered by your love of Nintendo and the fact that you haven't invested in a PS4 yet

        • I'm not a huge fan of InFamous and there's no decent exclusive games on either apart from InFamous to justify the investment.

I'll get a PS4 if the Order 1866 turns out to be less of a lie than Watch Dogs. And I'll get Watch Dogs 2 next year, or Watch Dogs 3 the year after when they actually try to differentiate it from GTA5. To be fair, Uncharted 1 sucks, and Uncharted 2 was the best PS3 game until The Last Of Us, so in all seriousness Watch Dogs 2 is set to be pretty good. Because the second game of the franchise is always* the best.

Hopefully Naughty Dog gets their pointless remake of a game from last year (like what even?)** out of the way to do something else, because they're arguably the best dev out there and I'd almost buy a whole console for a new one of their games.

As long as things keep getting released on PS3, there's no reason to buy upwards, because we shouldn't be afraid of pixels.

          *Not always.

**Even if it's the best game ever, one year isn't a long enough wait to remake a game. And, well, The Last Of Us is the best game ever let's face it.

          Hah. Metacritic. Hah.
Last of Us, best game ever? Heh.
Watch Dogs is GTA5? Going to be honest, I don't get that. I enjoy Watch Dogs, GTA5 I cannot stand.

Oh well. What ever floats your bloat mcfuzz. Better to play and make informed and genuine statements, then assume and bash without knowledge. But hey, like I said, what ever floats your boat.

I am going to go and have more fun in Watch Dogs, Mario Kart and Monster Hunter.

        • Everyone has compared GTA5 and Watch Dogs, because Watch Dogs tries so hard to wear Groucho Marx glasses and put on a generic gruff gritty voice protagonist and pretend it isn't GTA. But it's an open world sandbox with an anti-hero, hijacking, shooting, and hacking minigames. It's GTA5 with worse driving.

I fully intend to play it when it's not a criminal amount of money, but I'm going off what I've seen and what everyone else has said about it. I'm not going to jump on a fanwagon of something that only surfaced as mediocre. And, might I add, a lie of the original product.

Skip to 2:30 if you want to see my favourite part.

And if The Last Of Us wasn't the best game ever I'd like to know what is. 20 hour singleplayer campaign with variation, upgrades, scavenging, touching story, amazing graphics, and Robin Atkin Downes. 10/10, no! 11/10, would buy again… Wait, no, scratch that, PS4 version coming out; don't have me on record of saying I'd buy it again coz I won't.

But seriously though, Ellie's derpy AI did ruin it at times.

        • +1

For me the driving is way better and more realistic than the childishly easy GTA driving. In not sure why we see this silly comment keep coming up. Also criminal amount of money? I paid $54 on launch day, hardly criminal. At the end of the day mate you don't actually know what you're talking about, you're just taking all the negatives you can find around this happy go lucky internet of ours and needlessly repeating them.

        • What about if I know people who said the same thing? Also saw it on TV? (Though that was Good Game, and you can't take them seriously because they gave Duke Nukem Forever 8's.)

That's not on the internet at least.

GTA5's driving was dumbed down from GTA4's "uber realistic" driving, because nobody thought GTA4's driving was any fun. And that's what goes in a videogame, after all.

        • +2

I'm sure when you play it yourself you'll see that it's a good game. For me the driving is a lot of fun, I'm having a blast in it. Also I find that games like GT and Forza a are fun due to the realistic driving featured within.

        • "But it's an open world sandbox with an anti-hero, hijacking, shooting, and hacking minigames."

And GTA5 took that from several other games. That means its not a GTA5 clone but rather a clone of many previous games, GTA5 was just the most recently released thus why its a comparison.

If we wish to define the game by those standards, then GTA5 is just a clone of many other games released before it.

Mafia 2 fits that bill nicely.

        • To be fair, one of my favourite games is a critically panned GTA clone Cough Saints Row 2 cough so I guess we're not all that different.

  • Is the Free game linked to your account that you registered mario kart 8 on?

    • -1

      Yes.

      • +3

No its not. You can use the code that it gives you once, on any WiiU account (that is of the same region as the code)

  • Has anybody had trouble with fitting NSMBU digital download on their basic console? I hear game saves can be quite big so I'm concerned if I'll have room for NSMBU and saves for all my games
