LG Optimus G E975K and Vodafone Network...

Hi Ozbargainers….

I m using Lg Optimus G (E975K) Telstra Branded handset. I was using Aldimobile on my phone and it used to show me 3G when i was accessing data via my mobile. I switched to vodafone prepaid but when i turn on data, it does not show me 3G/4G. It only shows H. But when i did OOKLA speedtest on vodafone mobile data, it shows download speed of 6Mbps and upload speed as 1.7Mbps. So i'm not sure if my mobile data connection is on 3G or 4G. Do i need to care about H/3G/4G icon? Can someone help?

Thanks…

Edit: LG Optimus G E975K supports following frequency.
2G Network
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

3G Network

HSDPA 850 / 2100

4G Network

  • I m using Lg Optimus G (E975K) Telstra Branded handset.

This is probably why. Aldi uses Telstra network.

  • With Aldi, your speeds are limited to only 7.2Mbps. Aldi doesn't use the 4G network, so you won't get LTE connectivity.
    Result:
Your phone won't show you a 4G icon, it will display the H meaning it's HSDPA.

If you want to go faster, you're going to have to switch back to Telstra.

  • Thanks guy. Question still remain is voda should show 3/4g? I know I can't have 4g with Aldi.

    • Yes.

      • Thanks scrim…

  • Ok got the answer from here:http://support.vodafone.com.au/articles/FAQ/Network-symbols-and-frequencies-explained…
    ‘H’ (HSPA)

    Frequencies: 900MHz (rural) | 2100MHz (metro) | 850MHz
HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) is a performance upgrade to 3G and provides a faster internet connection than our regular 3G network.

Depending on the phone you're using and the coverage area you're in, the H and H+ symbols could mean you're connected to HSPA, HSPA+ or the Vodafone 3G+ network, which uses DC-HSPA+ technology.

    • You are faring pretty nicely with the speed you're getting. The rollout of Vodafone's 850Mhz 'Vodafail' prompted network upgrade hasn't ever reached any of the tranducers, on any of the towers that I live near. Alas.

      • Yeah but Vodafone is doing far better for me compared to optus…

        • They were for me too, but speeds have been getting increasingly variable and ordinary just of late.
Their advertising might be working and congestion might be increasing again. Network swings and roundabouts.
