Recommend a good colour laser full featured MFP/MFC under $800?

I'm looking for something like the Brother MFC-9340CDW or MFC-9970CDW, but the reviews on their graphics print quality has turned me off a bit.
Needs to be full featured:
Colour Print Scan Copy Fax, Auto Duplex, ADF, Wireless, etc.

Anyone have anything they would recommend?

  • I have the MFC 9970 and love it. Works great and has all the features you require. In regards to the graphics print quality I couldn't answer truthfully because I never print colour graphics.

One very small annoyance I have with the ADF (maybe a little OCD) is that most scanned documents appear nice and straight while a small percentage of scanned documents are a little wonky and need correction. It annoyed me at the beginning, but with the increasing amount of documents and paperwork I've given up trying to straighten them all.

I know I probably don't use it to its maximum capability (future proofing is what I tell myself lol) however the ADF/ Auto Duplex/ Wireless/Scan/ Copy/ Colour print are the main reasons why I decided on the MFC 9970.

PS You should price match at OW - I got the MFC 9970 for around $650 price matched at OW.

PPS. If you decide on a Brother printer you're in luck, they also have a cash back deal going for the MFC - 9970 until 31st July 2014. Would be an awesome bargain! Would make it $400! (almost worthy of a deal)

edit. I just read their T&C's and Officeworks is non participating reseller! :( Don't see why you couldn't try price match elsewhere.

Cut and paste from Brother website.
~ The DCP-J4110DW is a Harvey Norman exclusive model
^ The DCP-J552DW is a Dick Smith exclusive model
    IMPORTANT:
    • Claims must be made online by 8th August 2014 and supporting documents must be received by no later than 29th August 2014.
    • Consumable attachment (LC-133CL3PK) Must be purchased in the same transaction & invoiced with the Inkjet DCP or MFC
    • Officeworks is a non-participating reseller

  • $650 is a real deal, if less the $200 rebate from Brother, will be only $450 !

Where do you get $650 from ? I know some computer store sells for about $730.

  • Just had a look at the site and it appears they have 'inflated' their price now to reflect the Brother cash back offer, and pretty much every other website.

It is around the $750 mark now.

Happy to provide a receipt if you require, it was purchased 9 months ago and looking at the price I got it for it was actually $630.76

    • Hi, can you please tell me which store you got it from ? Thanks. $630.00 is very cheap, less $200 will only be $430.00.

I was not sure whether to get this or Brother 8155 or 8910, all have duplex scanning, but the later two only B/W but later models.

  • OW (Office Works- Nailsworth, SA) but they are not participating re-seller for the Brother cash back offer. Based on the online stores I can see you will end up getting it for around $550 AFTER cash back as most are selling for around $750 now.

Good luck, like I said, if you want a receipt from 9 months ago I can provide if it will help.

    • Thanks Winnieblues. There is computer shop ( not online store) selling for $725 in Melb. If you can post your receipt to me, that will be great then I can try to ask them to price match, but if it is too much of a hassle for you, then is fine.

  • No problems.

    Good luck!

    • Thanks for the receipt. I printed and showed Harvey Norman, they said was below their cost. Hence cannot price match. I will try else where. OW is now about $800 plus, but buying from them will not give me the cash back.

Just wondering whether you use third party toner ( from ebay is about $29.00) or the original? Does the third party toner last long of 4000 pages ?

I asked Brother before if I only used B/W, and set to that setting, it will not use up the colour toner, is that the case for you ?

      • Do harveynorman even stock this? I can't see it on their site

      • I use the OEM Brother Toner. Just price matched the toners with Ink station at Officeworks and to be honest I've never counted the pages but they have lasted a very long time, and I use it for business only. I couldn't tell you much regarding the third party toners.

Yes I'm glad you asked Brother that because all the other reps will keep telling you something different, in my situation I'm glad I did a little research before heading in. But yes if you set to B/W thats it, you will only use B/W. If a coloured toner is low you can still print B/W no problems. Mine has two coloured toners that are showing low for the past 3 months and I just ignore it and print only in B/W.

  • In Thomastown, Melbourne they have.
