DealExtreme problems?

Hi all,

I haven't been able to get onto www.dealextreme.com for the past 2 days. I've been able to access other websites so I was wondering, if DealExtreme is having problems?

Is anyone else able to access the site?

Alternatively, does anyone know what's going on with them?

Kind regards

  • It seems to be fine for some. Have a look at the Whirlpool thread?

  • As far as I know, there is some network issue between Australia and DX's server at aplus.net in San Diego. If you use a US-based proxy server it should be fine.

  • Thanks guys :)

    phew

I thought they might have closed or something. I'll try letting them know about the problem.

  • Its a holiday in Hong Kong - so the site might not be up until tomorrow - National day.

  • Thanks Ozpete. Their site is up (see below).

I used a US proxy, hidemyass.com, which lets me see the site, but then I cannot log on. I can browse but cannot buy :(

  • I think it might not have anything to do with Hong Kong/China national holidays, because DealExtreme forum is still pretty active. Just to get a bit technical, I think the upstream router (69.64.66.22) is blocking the traffic from Australia/New Zealand. I am using one of my server in US as a proxy server, and it works fine.

There's currently one thread on their forums regarding this issue so we'll see.

  • Just found out that the Telstra's public proxy server works fine with DealExtreme. Use the following address:

    • HTTP Proxy: proxy.cache.telstra.net
    • Port: 3128

Save you from searching for a public proxy in US. Time to get back to shopping :)

  • :) :) :)

I put it in the proxy and it works now.
    3 cheers for Scotty!!!

    :) :) :)

  • Telstra has a few proxies. You can try x.cache.telstra.net @ 3128. x being the state, eg. perth, sydney, melbourne etc.. :)

  • tried the proxies and had no success. Then today it gets thru only to say they are performing maintenance, oh well at least I can see something.

I did get an email this week following up on my past order. I replied - taht it was ok, but cant order anymore etc because of the site issue. This bounced when sent via TPG. So I sent via Yahoo and then it got through.

They replied and said they are working on the issue - s/b 2 days away.

(If mail doesn't get thru it might be a "spam" issue where they are blocking IP's - still that's their issue)

  • Try using Telstra proxy with the following URL

    http://dealextreme.com/

    i.e. without the WWW prefix.

I heard from WP forums that they were having denial of service issue from China, but not sure how they ended up blocking the Australian IP addresses.

  • scotty thanks - the no www did the trick.

  • I think they fixed the problems.

I just got in without using proxies and all! :)

  • I can't get to the site again, this is soo annoying, i don't want to use proxy server becuase i have to put in my paypal details and i don't want my account hacked.

Are proxy servers safe to use with paypal?

    Cheers all

  • They were working for a few days. I got my Christmas shopping list planned for the family :)

Then when I went to get back in, I couldn't.

The thread kycw referred to says that this time it's a "server busy" error. If that's right, then we can't use proxies to get to them either …

  • actually i just tried with telstra proxy and i got it working but i as using this other no name proxy and i aparently got a virus from it >< so i better wait it out and see rather than have my paypal account hacked :)

  • I noticed this site use US currency so when pay using PayPal do I have to pay the conversion fee?

    • Yes, if you are paying from your Australian fund. If you are paying from your credit card, then you won't get conversion fee from PayPal but from your CC.

  • Does anyone know when DealExtreme will be generally available again? :)

I have problems with proxies too, includng the Telstra ones. (probably specific to my set up)

  • They're accessible again

    • Larry,

You'll find that there are DealExtreme fans in Australia because they have free shipping world wide, which saves us calculating it ourselves. We are happy to buy overseas as long as shipping fee is fare :)
