›› FREE Lifetime Maps. Download 4 or more full updates every year for the life of your app.

What is the life of the app?, If they upgrade the app version does that mean I have to buy again?

If I change to a new phone, can I install this app again without paying for another licence ?

    • No, the app gets updated free like any other Android app. As for the 4 map updates a year, they only update the maps 4 times a year anyway, so you get all their updates.

Yes, you can install it on as many devices as you like, provided you're using the same google account on all of them.

    • Yeah i also like to know what the "life of the app" means… does that mean they bring out a new version you have to pay again?

Also, if anyone is interested in a free alternative… apparently Route 66 is free and worldwide… Not too sure how good it is though.

      • Of course changing from an Android phone to an IOS or Windows phone would require a new licence. It's locked to the account you buy it on ie. which ever one you are currently using on Google store.

        • I was actually referring to whether they updating the app, or do they release a new one?

  • As far as I know the android app doesn't have the speed camera alerts like the iOS one does.

    • @ Dealspider

As far as I know the android app doesn't have the speed camera alerts like the iOS one does.

      From Here http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/your-drive/smartphone-n…

      Speed Cameras

Your app receives real-time mobile speed camera locations, including reports from other users. It also warns you of other alerts, such as fixed speed cameras and average speed checks for the road ahead. It saves you money on speeding fines, helping you drive safely and relaxed.
      Available via in-app purchase

looks like it is available for extra cash now

      • How much extra is speed/ red light alerts?

        • @tyank232

How much extra is speed/ red light alerts?

maybe this much…can't see the android price tho…

          only 50 dollars per year :) http://www.tomtom.com/en_au/services/speed-cameras-other/

        • A bargain depending on how often you get caught.. I never do, but I got hit almost $400 for a red light once.

        • I'm using the iOS version and at the moment, Traffic alert subscription is 20% off and for 12 months, it's $32.99
Maybe the Android version is the same?

        • In iOS the speed and red light alerts are free whereas in Android it is an in-app purchase. I use both iOS and Android apps.

      • Looking at my in-app purchases on my android, I can say that traffic is currently $30.99AU for a 12 month subscription. As far as I know (and I currently am using the traffic subscription) this does not contain any speed camera alerts and there is no other in-app purchases currently available.

    • why not?

How do you purchase Telstra pre-paid credit at half price?

    • I bought them when they were $15 for a $30 starter pack. Then I called Telstra and had the credit combined into one SIM. So I had $60 of credit which I paid $30 for.

      • +1

you cannot buy apps that cost more than $20 using telstra credit.

  • +1

I thought that there was a $20 limit on apps that could be purchased using Telstra's carrier billing:

Why is my 'Bill my Telstra account' greyed out when I tried to purchase an album for $24?
The content that you are about to purchase has exceeded the content spend limit for a ‘one off' app, book, game, music or movie purchase using Bill my Telstra account as a payment option. This limit is set to $20 and can't be increased. If you want to purchase items over this amount you need to use credit card.

    (from http://go.telstra.com.au/helpandsupport/-/google-play-on-my-…)

    • Just put a $40 recharge on, can confirm that it's greyed out for me.

      • so, how did the OP do it?

Google Play cards are 10% off this week at Coles until June 3rd which will bring the price of the app down a little more.

  • I've got google maps and navigon (garmin) on my note 3 - how does this compare?

  • The Google built in app is FREE!

    • +1

yeah i use the built in compared when my wife takes out the tomtom, it works as good as the purpose build gps. got to keep it charging though, or it runs out the phone battery

    • That's a good point. Is there any reason why should one pay for this app when google maps are free? I am really curious.

Google maps uses data while Tomtom, Navigon etc are offline except maybe for live traffic updates. I am pretty sure you can load up a route on google maps when on wifi and it loads all maps on the route saving data (haven;t tried it myself though).

      • +1

I don't know about you, but I've got all of Sydney saved to my device for offline use in Google Maps. (Traffic is online though)

Also, they'll likely have the 'use X lane at intersection' available in Australia soon. Now, if only they had camera data!

  • I think the only Android offline gps app with speed/red light cameras without a yearly subscription fee is Sygic. I think Tomtom, Navigon, Garmin all require a subscription for this. I could be wrong though so let me know if I am.

    • I think you are right.
The speed/red light cameras is defn worth it.

So even tho TomTom is great, it would cost more in the long run if you want the speed/red light cameras.

    • maybe copilot has those functions too i think

      • Supposedly it does (I ticked the camera warning button). I just started using copilot. Much faster and smoother that google, even on my old phone. Plus it is all offline (and free!)

If you just need Australian maps, you can use MetroView, which I own it and I'm happy with it (costs $19.80, so it can be paid with Telstra credit). The maps have been updated to 2013-Q4 (even the description says it was 2012). There is also a "Life Traffic Data" option from TomTom for $19.99/year as an in-app purchase (one can spend the Telstra credits for that as well).

    • I have metroview as well but find the maps a bit out of date…

      • Think they just updated not long ago within a month or two ?

        • Oh OK. I normally disable auto update because iTunes takes up so much bandwidth!

  • Can it use at offline?
