So I bucked under all the WiiU specials but now I am set for the university holidays! Is it possible to set up the WiiU to display on an iMac? It's the previous model with the thicker screen if that makes a difference. If so, what cables/adapters/cords do you guys recommend. Thanks!

I don't think the 21" iMac has Target Display Mode like the 2009 and 2010 iMac 27" model. I used to use a Belkin AV360 to hook up my consoles to the Mac.
The mid 2011 and the late 2012 21"models do support TDM, but none of the others do.
Really? I always thought only the 27" supported TDM! I learnt something today :D
Possibly, but it depends how old your model is.
See this Apple KB for compatibility requirements.. It also seems you'll need a HCDP compatible adaptor to get the output from the WiiU to mini-displayport.
