TCL 65" LED TV thoughts?

The TCL L65E5510FDS is a 65" LED TV (2014 model) which can be had for $1550 and I'm really tempted.

It's been on Ozbargain before:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146526
and
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/143738

I originally wanted Samsung/Panasonic/Sony/LG in 60" for under $1500. I didn't want plasma which ruled out most of just about everything.

Then I notice the TCL in 65" flavour. I know it's not one of the big 4 brands but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere they are a tier 1 brand (in-house manufacturing) - correct me if I'm wrong on that, so when it comes down to the remaining options I'm thinking they would stack up quite well.

Compared to Kogan, Aldi etc, I get a better feeling with TCL. Plus the extra realestate of 65" is really appealing!

Are there any alarm bells going off in peoples heads reading this post?

Are there any owners of recent TCL TV's reading this post?

Love to hear your thoughts!

A family member has had a TCL-L55P10FHD for several years now, and they couldn't be happier with it…I helped them source it at the time, oddly enough for exactly the same price you've now found for the 65". At that time there was zero likelihood of getting anything branded by any other tier 1 manufacturer at the sub-$2.5k price point!

The image on their set always looks great to me when I visit, so TBH I wouldn't hesitate if you like the set. IIRC, the warranty from TCL is at least 2 years.

Thanks StewBalls for your feedback, thats good news. Since posting this I've been doing some research and the general consensus is TCL is pretty good, rated above some of the other "no namers" out there such as HiSense etc.

And 65", that's just massive, perfect for the large room I have in mind (in a house we haven't moved into yet).

I think I read warranty was 3 years but could be mistaken, either way 2 or 3 sounds good to me.

      • Yep, looks like you're right, 3 years warranty…sweet! :)

  • Have used a TCL TV in the past for many many years…No complaints whatsoever.

  • Tcl tv used at work no hassles

  • All good feedback thus far, sounds promising.

I went and checked it out today. Looks pretty good but I'd need to run some content through it to get a better idea. It's 6 stars energy rating (better than I expected for the price). 350kWh/year I think for anyone curious.

I'm also planning to buy its 48.5" sibling for the bedroom which also looks really nice. I currently have a 32" in the bedroom and thought anything over 40" would be ridiculous but I'm sold on the 48 now :) At least I'll have the same remote, I hate having too many different remotes.

  • I too was looking at this one. Not interested in the 4K model as nothing really supports it yet, and I figure when the UltraHD does come out, then I'll just upgrade :-)

Where can you get it for $1,550 by the way? I've only seen it for around the $1,700 mark.

I'm not a TV buff as such, so don't need the best quality panels, etc, just as long as it looks good basically. The 65" is very appealing.

Click_It, have you seen any further of this TV yet or run any tests?

  • Hi all,

I ordered a TCL L65E5510FDS 65 inch from the Good Guys.
Ended at playing $1591 for it. They were able to price match which was good.

Hopefully it comes in soon as they didn't have any stock.
The display model looked very good.

Oh, and I've had a TCL in my room for the past 5 yrs which hasn't missed a beat.

3 year warranty on the 65" by the way.

    • Thanks Richie,

I went in the Good Guys the other day and couldn't see any TCL TVs in there at all. Do they order them in specially or something?

Don't forget to use their 30 day 120% price guarantee if you find it cheaper somewhere within the next 30 days :-)

I did this the other day on my Breville Milk frother, they ended up paying me back $13 because I found it cheaper elsewhere.

PS: Where did you get them to price match it from?

    Hey,

No they had one on display in the Taylors Lakes store in Melb.

I used Appliances Online for the price match, but I believe they have increased their price now to 1,798.
I got lucky I think as they priced matched a slightly different older model TCL L65F3500FDS.

BingLee currently has the TCL - L65E5510FDS for $1585 though so ask the Good Guys to match that.
