Phone advice: What should I buy?

So I currently have an iPhone 4. Its coming up on 4 years old in a couple of months and its starting to annoy me as it doesn't have a top lock button (tore it out), wifi doesn't work from further than 4 metres away and its really slow.

I was wanting a new phone but I really have no idea what to get..

Basically I don't want an iPhone, i think they suck and are ridiculously expensive.

SO anyway, What is a fast-ish, not over the top expensive phone that can browse the internet, browse Facebook, take photos, has a decent battery life and has a tough-ish screen?

I was thinking a Nexus 5 but from what I'm seeing it looks fragile and the battery life doesn't seem that great.
I'd be happy with a nokia lumia 520 if i could get one for like $80..
I don't really know much about most android devices because I've never paid attention to them.

moto g would be good for you. $238 at OW.

Agree with PissLUR, Motorola Moto Gwould be suitable for your needs.
It's got a quad core processor, 4.5inch screen, Android 4.4.2 (and fast updates from Motorola), great battery life, great build quality.

    • I'm also in need of very similar advice as my requirements are the same but I have to have an android phone due to preference. Upon your advice, I checked out the Moto G and so I think I have a choice between that and the LG Optimus L7 II. The LG has 4gb internal memory and expandable to 32gb and the Moto G has 8gb internal but no micro sd slot. I have a very old Huawei U8300 so I didn't ever download any apps on it. Do apps require a lot of space (Facebook, Instagram, Candy Crush Saga…)? Can apps be stored on the sd card? I'm almost a complete smartphone noob.

      • How about LG Optimus G if you don't need dual sim…

  • Nokia Lumia 630 or if you want to pay a little more the Lumia 1020 or 1520

  • go with a moto x or lg g2 if you want top specs at an affordable price

LG G2. Best phone I have owned yet! Amazing performance and battery life. I get 2 days use easily from a single charge, but YMMV.

    • Agree. I use my G2 a lot every day and sometimes I even forget to charge it. Absolutely great phone (and I've owned a few).

      • How about the LG G2 durability?

I'm not one to always be dropping my phone but stuff happens and I don't want to be paying $220 every time it gets dropped.
I would of course have a case on it but yeah, I'm just going off the nexus 5 which in my experience breaks quite easily..

The bigger the device, the more fragile the screen. Use a nice solid case to improve durability.

  • I would suggest that a Nex5 is better bang/buck than an LG G2 but then Kogan put the G2 on sale, and it is now cheaper for the 16GB version (in red). Better cam, better battery, slightly bigger (0.2 inch) screen, similar everything else. I love my Nex but the G2 looks really good at that price point.
If you can wait for Oneplus to start selling its phone, rather than trickling it out onto the market on some kind of daisy chain, that would be the one to get, IMO.

    • Yeah i dont understand why they don't just release the damn thing already. I kinda want to wait for the Oneplus but I'm not sure yet.
