Looking for a gaming headset around $100

Hi everyone,

I am looking to get my first ever gaming headset for some late night gaming. I am looking to get a gaming headset under 100 bucks.

I have a surround sound system setup for my PS3 and PC for gaming, which I will still be using during the day.

I found the following headset, which all have their pros and cons, see below:

Skullcandy SLYR: about $99
Pros: Compatible across all platforms, decent sound quality
Con: It is wired and not many reviews on this

Logitech G930: about $100 when on sale
Pros: Wireless, 7.1 surround sound
Cons: not compatible with PS3, relatively old model

Razer Taimat 2.2: about 90
Pros: light and Comfortable, cheaper than the other 2
Cons: Not compatible with ps3

Any comments or other suggestions would be great, thanks

  • Try this one

It's compatible with PS3 and PC (supposedly… from this link)

Wireless and apparently has 7.1… not too sure how that works

and it's under $100 like you said.

    EDIT:

Apparently 7.1 doesnt work on PC =/ source

    • Yea, I did see that one, but shame it isn't compatible with PC. Especially because I will be using the headset on my PC more than ps3

      • According to the fourth comment on the gamefaqs post, it does work on pc, just not the 7.1 virtual surround =/

Well in the end it's your choice.

  • If you like Turtle beach's Px5 im happy to sell a set that i have for 100, As i rarely use my Ps3.

  • Turtlebeach is prob the go. I had the P11, because i only play my PS only a handful of times a week. It's pretty cheap now as well…

  • what about the Plantronics Gamecom 7.1?

  • Just my personal opinion, but I would go for normal headphones not 'gaming'.

Gaming headphones are usually expensive for the sound and build quality compared to normal headphones.

The surround sound feature is just software and not in the actual headset itself so works with any headphones and only makes a game sound a bit better but not good for games that rely on sounds for hearing where enemies are.

I'd recommended getting this mic. It's cheap and well regarded as a good clear mic. Just clip it onto where the cord meets the headphones. If it breaks can be easily replaced (my cat chewed through he cord). Whereas if your mic breaks on a headset it's a bit of a nuisance (my ss siberia v2).

As for working with ps3 I believe there are adapters (eg. USB to audio jacks) that will connect to your tv or ps3 and still work. Discussion about it here
