Returning an item to Myer (unused) outside the 30 day return period

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone can help me answer this. I bought a backpack in Jan 2013 (yes I know, long time ago). As soon as I bought it I threw it in a cupboard and forgot about it.

Was clearing out a few old things and found it- completely unused and in exactly the same condition that I bought it, still with the receipt inside.

I know that Myer has a 30 day no questions asked return policy, but is there anyway I can return thing? I have no use for it.

Thanks for your help in advance!

  • Nope. I believe the current owners that purchased Myer from Coles became quite stringent in their returns policy. Sell it on ebay/use it/give it to family or friends/donate it

    • May as well have a crack selling it on here then. Thanks

1 year and 5 months??? No bloody way. They (and probably surrounding customers) will only laugh at you.

I work at Myer and I know it sounds silly but there is one way to get a refund in your situation.

If the bag was under $100 and you paid via paypass with an ING Direct Debit account you will have a higher chance of this working. If not, theres still hope.

Go to the 3rd floor of the 436 George Street, Sydney store and ask for Mike, from there you will most likely be told that there is no Mike.. but be persistent! Tell them you know Stefan Reevs. From there you will be guided out past the dressing room to the managers break room. Mikes office is located through a door from within the break room. Now.. Once you've reached Mike you will realise he's actually Mike Myers. Explain your situation and spongebob squarepants will appear in the corner; hand him $200 in 50c pieces and he will probably put a few up his butt before giving you the refund you want and deserve.

Wow! If only you told me this earlier. Would have tried it before

  • I doubt it, maybe if you where good friend with the manager perhaps.

But one question, why did you buy that bag? Clearance?bargain or a gift?

    • Thanks for your response. I doubt I'll get a return based on what the responses above say.

I actually bought it on a whim as it's a large satchel that can fit a laptop + has a separate compartment that doubles up as an overnight bag, but preferred using a roller bag.

  • No retailer will refund an item that old, it's just no longer in a condition that can be sold like it was at the same time u bought it.

    Try ebay

When I worked a David Jones one summer the training talked about how great their customer service is about things like this and how they bend over backwards etc with an example of some old lady once returning something after like 20 years and they were cool about it

I don't think it was even unused, she just wasn't happy with it anymore or it broke or something

So maybe you could try this and hope they have a "commitment to customers" but more likely you'll get some part time uni student who doesn't care about you enough to try anything their tightass manager might give them shit about later and head office stopped trying to keep customers happy when everyone started buying stuff online
