'Lost' all data in Mario Kart 8...

I fired up Mario Kart 8 tonight and found that the data had all been reset. I checked the storage settings and found that there were two files, one that was 64MB and was named my data and an 84MB file called shared data, which I'm guessing is my old data. I'll contact Nintendo tomorrow to see if they have a solution or are working on a patch, don't think I'll get a useful response but I would like to know from someone that's available before I call, do you have two files like I do or just one personal file? Or does anyone know how to make the shared data the actual data?

Edit: I only have one account/profile on my system and is logged in to by default on system startup.

Did you perhaps login on the wrong account? I know my girlfriend panicked thinking she'd lost all here saves on 3d world as she was under my profile rather than hers. I'll try and check my save data and see what I files I've got, but i think that's what my other games look like.

At least now you have the joy of unlocking it all again, talk about replay value!

    • What endless fun… Lol.
I've only got one account, I'll see if I was logged out and I'll try again and come back here. I have tested my Pikmin 3 data to confirm that it didn't affect everything and it works fine.

Edit: I've checked and I'm logged in to the only profile on my system, still no luck. I have been logged in to it while online so data should be linked to that account.

    • I actually unlocked everything and got gold on all the races last night and went "AWW NUU! I've finished unlocking all the things!" So I would only partially be incredibly pissed off at losing all my data. Okay, I'd probably be pretty angry, but think of all those sweet tires I get to unlock again!

I called Nintendo this morning and was told that it could only be a problem with the console. They want me to send it in. If they can't find anything wrong with the console, which they won't be able to since I'm sure its a software issue then they'll charge me $50 for appraisal…

    • Ouch. Pity no cloud saves for the WIi U (although when xbox started that, it had it's own set of teething problems.)

  • I'll boot mine up and have a look.
Perhaps transfer your data off your console to external memory device. earse it from the console and xfer it back onto the device (used to be able to do that with the wii).

if you don't want to take a gamble, i can test that with mine first to make sure it works if you would like.

    • Don't worry about it, looks like its a growing problem… http://www.gonintendo.com/s/229853-select-mario-kart-8-players-have-randomly-lost-their-save-data I'll send this email to Nintendo America and see what I get back.

      • Alrighty. Certainly an odd issue.

I have the exact same memory allocation as you. 64mb personal and 84mb shared.

I still there is a chance your console will locate the data if you copy to an external device, delete it from console and xfer it back. If that or the data is corrupt so its borked.

        • I've transferred it and no luck.

        • darn.
