10% - 15% off RRP - Are they really bargains?

I;ve been here long enough to question whether the 10% - 15% off RRP we often see here and in the media really bargains?

10%-15% off you could normally get from bricks and mortar shops by doing some basic haggling. More if you press a bit harder.
Might work for a lot of people that feel uncomfortable negotiating better prices ( at least %20 off ) but I cannot be alone when I just see the 12- 15% published discounts and seem unfazed.

With so much chatter here, I see the 12-15% discounts just really noise. Might be time for a site filter?

  • With those type of bargains, the OP usually posts a specific product which is a bargain.

agree with ozhunter, normally it gets ignored or shot down quick.

@nono… do you have an example in mind ?

I guess the Dick Smith "sales"?
I certainly won't be motivated to purchase by 10%-15% off, but I think it is useful if, for example, you are after a new printer/modem etc where you need to buy in the next day or two and any slight discount is better than none.

  • dont like % of full price or rrp items
love the myer 75% off reduced prices! that the only time i would shop at myer

  • There are some items you can't haggle on so 10%-15% can be a good price if the product rarely goes on special.

If a product is only on 10% or 15% special, I usually look to see if I can get another 5%to 10% using other methods of reducing the price(loyalty programs, credit card points, discounted gift cards, cash back etc).
