SYD > LAX Return in November

Hello. Looking to do a few weeks in the USA in November.

Currently the best deal I can find is about $1180 each with Virgin/Delta through FlightCentre.

Does anyone know of any potential deals coming up? Ideally I'd like to get the airfares for around $1000 each.

Thanks in advance!

Hi J4ck, if I were you I would jump on the Virgin flights asap. Anything under $1200 return for a pacific crossing is a very good price. Things like $700-$1000 return flights do not happen on Virgin and Qantas, only on Air New Zealand (which hasn't happened in a good few months) and Fiji Airways (which the dates are random, and often disappear quickly).

Try playing around with kayak, however if I were you I wouldn't leave the fares from flight center too long, as they are likely the best deal you are going to get, with the addition of being one of the best airlines crossing the pacific (virgin!!).

  • Alright thanks for that!

  • I've been offered SYD > LAX return for $1259 each but they come with $150 credit each for hotels and car hire, which we would be spending money on anyways.

I think that looks pretty good!

  • Make sure it's the virgin flight VA1 and VA2, not the delta codeshare flights which are on delta planes and not as good from what i've heard

    • I think the flight going there is a Delta codeshare, the one returning is VA2.

I've flown (twice) to the US on United 747s. So I'm sure the Delta 777s will be fine.

  • I booked my SYD-LAX return flights for November with Virgin for $1100 each about a month ago. The same flights are now $1500, so I'd advise you to book sooner rather than later.

    • Cool. Thanks for that. I'm sorting it out today. As I said above, we've got a deal with Flight Centre that looks decent.

  • I'm in a similar situation, mid november departure early dec return to sydney

I got a quote from sta for $2095 for

Virgin va1/2 in and out of LAX
Virgin or jetblue for 3 legs of flight between the coasts.

$1990 if i go with delta.

Is this a reasonable price to pay? The LAX-SYD return probably accounts for 1600 of it.

    • I just checked Virgin website and LAX-SYD return on VA1/2 for 16/11 - 4/12 is $1502. Other dates available for the same price too. Kayak is good for checking US domestic flight prices but keep in mind that you may have better baggage allowances if you book it all as one ticket/itinerary with a travel agent. Hope this helps.

      • thanks donga i'll look at kayak for the domestic prices

    • As an FYI, look into Southwest Airlines as their fares include 2 checked in pieces of luggage for all domestic flights.

      • thanks datty i have just booked with them, the 2 checkin luggage was a big reason!

  • Don't want to hijack the thread - If you need any accommodation in LA/USA my parents have timeshare that we can never use all of it. Can do a great deal for ozbargainers

    • Do you have a link to the property website? How good a deal are we talking?
