Amazon's Description:

At last the definitive, most complete and up to date Who's Who of one hundred of the world's most notorious Serial Killers from serial killer expert David Elio Malocco. Everything you need to know is here: where they were born, their parents, education, early life, crimes, victims, modus operandi, trial and sentencing.

Who’s Who – Serial Killers features one hundred psychopathic serial killers from all over the world including, America, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Britain, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kazahstan, Latvia, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Spain and the Ukraine. Many of them are still alive; some have already been released from prison; and some are due to be released in the very near future and probably coming to a neighborhood near you, sooner than you think.

So how do you know if you are living next door to a psychopath? The short answer is that you don’t. They appear completely normal. Psychopaths have the ability to completely compartmentalize their lives. One moment they might be hosting a child’s birthday party; the next strangling one of the mother’s to death in the bathroom. They have no emotions. This is why they are so difficult to catch. Take Dennis Rader as an example.

On the face of it Dennis was a normal, happily married man with two children who lived in a compact family home in the suburbs. He had a steady job, had never been in trouble in his life and adored his wife. He was a loyal and faithful husband. He didn’t abuse alcohol or drugs and he didn’t fool around. He was a respected member of society. He was a Cub Scout leader. He was president of the congregation of his local Lutheran Church. His wife was a homemaker who worked part-time as a book-keeper. In her spare time she tended the garden and sang in the church choir. They appeared to be a solid, dependable, ordinary, decent family. And they were, except for Dennis.

Dennis was a psychopath, rapist, sexual predator and serial killer. He enjoyed torturing his victims. He liked to be referred to as BTK which stands for Blind, Torture and Kill. He tortured men, women and children. Afterwards, he would tidy up and go home to his loving family and no one was any the wiser. Not even his wife of thirty four years.

Some killers like John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Gary Ridgway, Richard Ramirez, Harold Shipman, Peter Sutcliffe, Ed Gein and Albert Fish are names you probably know well. But there are many others you may not know. What makes them different from us? Are they different? Maybe American author Gregory Maguire is correct when he says: “People who claim that they’re evil are usually no worse than the rest of us. It’s people who claim they’re good, or any way better than the rest of us, that you have to be wary of.”

No need to make these guys urban legends.

Seriously a failure when it omits the number one serial killer whose wicked deeds have been
cautiously not publicized very well due to the sensitive nature of the slayings.

    • While a horrific story in general, and technically murder, a botched abortion is hardly what people mean. Even on that scale.
At the other end of things, you are not likely to see Jack Kevorkian on the list either, are you?

  • If you want a totally new and extremely thought-provoking approach to the phenomenon of serial killing, I cannot recommend enough, David McGowan's seminal work Programmed to Kill: The Politics of Serial Murder.

So much more than your run-of-the-mil sensationalistic, morbidly-obsessed crime drama by some author who has a not-so-healthy obsession with romanticising serial killers (which is from my experience what most serial killer books are about: generating media attention and tingling the public's secret, mass media-fed appetite for bloodlust. They tend to have a bizarre fixation on the minute, gruesome details of the crimes, rather than any altruistic sense of investigative analysis).

  • Will there be a sequel on parallel killers?
