Games Paradise - 20% off Plus a Stackable 10% Discount if You Have an Auto Club Membership

51
STOCKTAKE

I was in the market for some board games and did my usual check of Amazon.com/uk and found the shipping costs quite prohibitive. I stumbled on this site where they have 20% off in stock items which brought the price down a bit but then noticed that if you have an auto club (RAC/RACV etc..) membership it stacks with an extra 10% for an overall 28% discount. (ie it takes the 20% off first, the 10% off the smaller amount - got me for a sec)

Combined with free shipping for over $125, it worked out to be a good deal for Games of Thrones and Mansions of Madness and close enough to US prices without freight AND GST is being paid (some tax is staying in the Country! :) The 20% excludes trading cards, MTG (Magic the Gathering I assume) pre orders or items already reduced. Not sure what the exclusions are on the auto club discount but it worked for these items and I hope it works for someone else.

  • Only problem is no NSW Auto clubs that I could see, only other states.

    • Odd as it's a NSW based company! Too hard dealing with NRMA?

    • For NRMA choose RACV

These discounts make Games Paradise more enticing than Milsims (who have $7 flat rate shipping). Still even with shipping games from Amazon often work out cheaper, especially multiple purchases. In the old days Amazon shipping was considerably cheaper, and ozGameShop used to have very low prices. Now Amazon shipping is $4 per pound.

For Fantasy Flight & WOTC "Ameritrash" games, the Book Depository is actually the cheapest source now when nobody is having sales, though they sometimes our out of stock for months.

GP doesn't have as large a range as Milsims does though. no Zombicide for instance. http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/113924/zombicide

Just be warned, this store has the worst reputation out of any store I've ever known. Personally I have had terrible trouble with them. 2 months for me to receive my 3 board games and many issues along the way.

They certainly do have a dodgy rep. For anyone that's not convinced, check out the whirlpool thread. Do a ctrl-F for 'paradise'. The negative to positive comment ratio is pretty skewed.

      • Also check out their Facebook comments during sales (particularly xmas sales).

Heaps of rage there. Look at the comments under posts between December 12 to February 17:

I've had a bad experience with Games Paradise. Mein paypal dispute mentions it all [Edit: Order number removed, names changed]:

        Hi GamesParadise

This dispute is regarding Order #xxxxxxxxx (placed on 1/2/2014), partially received on 14/2/2014, but is missing the card game "Tanto Cuore".

I apologise for raising a dispute. I've done so for the following reasons:
        1. I would not be able to raise a dispute later (beyond Paypals 45 day limit)
        2. No response to emails (requesting update on back order status) on 6/3/2014, 11/3/2014, and 12/3/2014.
        3. Your website claims to have a live inventory. My product displays "in stock", and has been since order placed on 1/2/2014, yet you claim it is on back order on an email sent on 14/2/2014.
        4. Looking at your faecbook page, I'm not the only person in the same situation. Some waiting much longer than i have and do not have the ability to raise a paypal dispute.

Apart from this, i have an additional issue with your notification for back order:
Your website Terms and Conditions state that a backorder notification would be given within 48 hours of an order placed. I was not notified until 14 days later (14/2/2014). That same day (14/2/2014) I received part of my order. This did not give me an opportunity to refund my entire order.Reason for refunding the entire order is because the part of my order sent is useless without the part you claim is on back order. I have "Tanto Cuore: Expanding the House" (a card game expansion) which cannot be played without the base game "Tanto Cuore" (the base game, you claim is on back order).

I will keep this dispute open as long as i can (I believe this is 20 days), This is because I still want the game.If you cannot get the game to me within 20 days. I will request a refund.

        Kind Regards,

        Batman

    • Yeah man. Took me over a month to receive some cards from them. When they promised it would arrive on launch day. And they are only located a 10 min walk from my office. (The price was different ($10 more for pick up???)

I had terrible trouble too. Their website shows many things as in stock when they are not, and they are not big on refunds.

If anyone gives it a go, pay by paypal, note the 45 day limit for disputes in your calendar, and be prepared to use it.

They don't answer their phone or their customerservice@ email. Through google you can find their other emails, miles@ anton@ which they at least answer, if not well.

If you live in Sydney try gamesempire.com.au I like them so much better than games paradise. Don't have as much stock but usually the best priced! Never used them for shipping so can't say if that's any good.

  • Thanks for the comments guys - I placed my order via PayPal so the 45 day clock is ticking!

  • Just an update - just got an 'its shipped' email after a week and low and behold they use fastaway couriers (which in my own experiences are particularly crap in WA) so we'll see if it ends up here!

  • We'll after being 'smacked' around the head by those in the know for board game purchasing, I finally got my delivery from these guys yesterday after just under a month from order (6/6). They dispatched the order after a week but the real let down as we all know is slowaway couriers which took over two weeks to get the parcel from Sydney to CBD Perth. Anyways, glad I wasn't in a hurry. Not sure if I'll use them again if they continue to use this courier service but with free freight on the order, you get what you pay for?
