  • Memory prices are falling. Hopefully won't be long until the 128gb becomes a more decent price.

Similar to the Transcend deal from a couple of weeks ago:

Should probably merge https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/147906 and this

  • Hi I'm just wondering if anyone would know if it would be cheaper to use my 28degrees and pay in USD or pay in AUD with my citibank card? Anyone know?

    • +1

definitely cheaper to pay in USD with your 28degrees card

      • Great. Thanks! Have to wait until I get home to pay then…

        • Depending on your citibank card you could just pay USD with that making it much the same
price as 28degrees. I think it was the visa debit that didn't have exchange fees.

    • which citibank card do you have? If you have citibank plus, then it would be ok to pay in us$.

Lately I've seen the SanDisk Ultra SD cards lowered from lifetime to 10 year warranty. Albeit only on 8GB sizes, but could be on others too. Does anyone know more about this?

    • +2

Can't see it being too much of a problem, 8gb will probably be the equivalent of a 3 1/2 floppy in 10 years :)

    • +5

10 Years is better than lifetime

Lifetime has always been an ambiguous term, is it the owners lifetime?, the design lifetime of the device (eg 1000 insertions) ? or the average replacement lifetime etc. Rather than taking something away, specifying 10 years gives you a fixed peace of mind period.

      • So true.
I always wonder about cheap-tech warranties anyway.
I have 2x4GB DDR3 sticks, max 10hrs use. Almost entirely troubleshooting. For a NAS I never finished. They seem to be dud. 2-3years old now. If I can find the receipt, and prove there's a problem… there's time/$ for return. And what will I get back? Meh.

Thanks, need one of these for my new Lumia.

    • +1

I've got one in my lumia 1320, works great!

      • Fellow 1320'ian, just bought an sd card!

  • so cheap. but why most mobile phones only have 16 and 32? and see how apple charge so much for extra 16gb ?

    • +5

      Because they can.

    • +1

The flash memory in the iPhone is different to the ones you find in the micro SD cards. The ones inside phones is MUCH faster, which is why when you play HD movies or filming HD videos on an Android phone, they recommend having a "fast" memory card (which is still slower than the internal memory).

Although it does cost more to produce internal memory, Apple is still ripping their customers off. It cost them like ~20 USD to jump from 16 to 32gb.

I read somewhere that apple doesn't allow external storage because of the decreased speed and therefore, a worse experience. I'm sure thats true and all, but they could at least make the price difference more reasonable.

Class10 cards have been CHEAP and well-above required speeds, for a long time. This card is enough to watch 1920x1080 10Mbit LOTR trilogy, bluray source. Enough quality for a 100" projector … and still have 32GB free… for $35 delivered.

Apple stopped making 16,32,64GB iPhone4s… only 8GB left. Can't put an SD card in them, either. I'm sure it has nothing to do with iPhone5 sales, or controlling the cost of GB on their phones.

        iPhone 5s
        16GB: $869
        32GB: $999
        64GB: $1129

$260 for 48GB. Does it cure cancer?

      • Could someone do a speed test on the internal memory of the 5S? I'm curious to know how much faster it is, compared to high speed class 10s.

I have serious doubts about their claims that it's (much) faster.

It says "Reformat into file system other than exFAT may cause instability". Anyone tried before? I'm thinking of using this for G1WH car dvr.

    • Not the same brand, but I use my 64gb samsung microsd as NTFS and have had no issues so far.

    • Funny you mention that.

I used my Sandisk extreme UHS 45MB/S 8GB card in a mac. Formatted it there to some journalled type. Formatted it back to FAT32, NTFS…anything with mac then PC. Now my DSLR cracks the sads after 5-10sec recording 720p video. Says it needs a card capable of high speed. Wtf?!

  • Thanks. I have a 64GB microSD Sandisk since the Amazon's Dec. 2012 deal and it still working perfect in a Sony cam.

  • These are okay but really no good for the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition?

    • Should work fine. GoPro reccomend a Class 10 up to 64GB and this card definitely meets those requirements.

    • +4

You shouldnt of been downvoted, this is a valid question. Let me fix that for you. As long as you arent recording in 2.7k or 4k, i imagine this would be fine, but i doubt it would be fast enough for 2.7k footage.

  • Got these for about $50 a year or 2 ago for my S3 and Note 3 so pretty good deal.

    "frustration-Free Packaging"

    • Wouldn't you get it in standard packaging, in case you change your mind and want to put on eBay?

      • No, had a look and the f-f packaging is only the delivery packaging, not the SD card

    • What is frustration-free packaging?

      • -1

        This http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/networking/promos/packaging/example-frustrationfree-mailer.V185643908.jpg

^ dat non opening and not hyperlinked link.

        • -4

Worked off my google images?!?! Whatever just google it =/

      • 'Frustration-free packaging' is Amazon's euphemism for OEM bulk-sourced cards.
From sellers other than Amazon (and going back in time, occasionally from Amazon itself), risk of fakes, 'ghost-run' cards, or high NAND-cell fault, factory-seconds.

With the latter (reporedly, dodgily, diverted from QC and the grinders), assuming the cards' controller chips were ok, they would often work fine for a long time and then just suddenly encounter a big flash cell glitch, hang-up and die.

        Tony7412, you did ask…

        • -1

How does the package mean that the sd card is more likely to stop working?

        • +1

That answer is contained (pretty clearly) in what I wrote above.

Sandisk used to state - categorically - that it only sold bulk cards to OriginalEquipmentManufacturers, and that 'non retail-package' cards otherwise sold to the public were either straight-out fakes, or cards sourced through inherently dodgy channels.

Since then, manufacturers (including, seemingly, Sandisk) or others down the chain of supply, seem to be reliably supplying - at least to Amazon proper - ok bulk cards.

All things electronic , including flash-memory cards, have a failure rate. The early batches of high-speed Sandisk micro cards (32GB and especially the 64) had a big one.
That's as an aside. Whether or not - relative to current full retail package cards - current Amazon bulk cards have a higher failure rate, I do not know.

  • +3

I was tempted, until visiting newegg where write speed is stated as around 10mb per sec (peaking to 14mb) which is disappointing. Also a few users saying their cards are failing so while this is a great price, I think I will skip it (planning on buying a camera that needs a sustained write speed of upto 200mbit so this card unfortunately is too slow)…

    • +2

I was tempted too. Thanks to the info and I also opened one of my drawers and found a few microSD cards purchased from previous OZB deals (still unopened). Must stop buying things I don't need.

    • Don't skimp on the most important component, when using a 2 grand camera.

      Thats from experience.

2nd rookie mistake: Only taking 1 card (or battery).

Once in a lifetime situation, and the card locked-up after 15min.

  • Thanks OP purchased 3 because the shipping cost was the same! I really hate myself and Ozbargain sometimes !!

  • Hey guys, would these bad boys work well with GoPro Hero 3's? or do they require higher write speeds?

    • +1

For sure it will, it's class 10

  • Thanks, got 2 for my Hero 3

  • Having a look at the Amazon reviews, there's a few comments that the memory cards are fake, and Sandisk won't honour the warranties if they come up so. Possibly linked to Tas' posts above.

  • Price now $1.05 cheaper at $28.95..

    edit: and changed again..

  • +1

Is there any reason why I shousknt buy this for a camera ? As in using micro with an adaptor ?

    • Hi.
It is possible to edit your comments after posting…
      'shousknt'?

To answer your question - no, there isn't any reason why you shouldn't, or can't, use a micro card with an adapter, in your camera.

A bigger problem for you will be if your arms are really like Elmo's?
Holding your camera steady without a tripod is something you clearly COULDN'T do!

      • You should edit, and simply answer "No."

        • Ta very much for the advice.

In between horribly long replies containing lame Elmo jokes, and wandering around at ungodly hours in the quest to improve my own nut-circulation, I write for a living.

I will, of course, as always, be keeping one eye on OzBargain for tasty comment-editing deals.

  • So why are micro SD generally cheaper than SD cards?

    • Less plastic.
