Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5" USB 3.0 - Faulty Adapter?

I purchased a Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5" USB 3.0 Hard Drive from DSE about a year ago, and then a few days ago when I tried to plug it in I realized it wasn't working.

I think it might be a faulty adapter as when I plug it in the hard drive fails to spin up or make any noise what so ever. I took it to DSE since it still has 3 years warranty, but I was told that all they do is replace the hard drive with a new one and the adapter is not covered.

I'm pretty sure I don't have anything important on there but just in case does anyone have any ideas on where I might be able to get a replacement adapter? The guy at DSE mentioned Jaycar but I don't know how to find an adapter that fits.

  • They do sell a replacement adapter

If you don't think you have anything on the drive, just get them to replace it. You shouldn't have much trouble, they will just plug it in- see it not working and get you another one. (pretty sure the adapter is covered anyway)

    • When I was at Dick Smith the guy tried one of those third party adapter kits and none of the heads would fit.

  • Everything you buy in Australia is covered by Australian Consumer Law, including the adapter.

    • I don't know if I'm missing something but there's no mention there about this issue or anything similar?

This is Dick Smith's problem to solve. It makes no difference that the power supply failed, not the drive itself, as the result is that the drive has become unusable. Stand your ground on this - no excuses are acceptable.

  • You need to connect it to a working USB port otherwise it would not even light or spin up :)

    • It's a powered drive, so plugging it into the power should at least get some movement from the drive. And I plugged it into a usb port anyway.
