Hiking daypack

Looking for a high end hiking pack around 30-40 liters. Not too concerned about features, just good quality.

Would like to get it under $100 if possible otherwise I might stretch to something like these that I found:

any good EOFY sales that I haven't heard about?

Thanks Ozzys.

The ospreys are highly regarded, i've got a smaller version and i love it.

The lighter colours attract the dirt, so i chuck it in the washing machine.

As for the macpac, i've never liked single clip bags, but each of their own.

both have a physical store in kent st, why not go down and try them on?

Yes +1 for Osprey, i have a 30l one and if I ever need another, it will be osprey no matter what the cost (and I'm a massive tightass!!) Comfort, durability and practicality are what Osprey do best. Happy hiking ;)

If you keep an eye on the Macpac/Paddy Pallin/Mountain Designs mailing lists it seems like they've got sales every second week or so.

On the Macpac front, I've had a few of their larger rucksacks and other gear but never a daypack. Most of their modern stuff isn't as durable as the 80s and 90s built gear my parents have. I can't help but feel that they're going down the path that Crapmandu took in the late 90s of becoming high-volume and fashion focussed rather than making good bombproof gear.

Otherwise, can't make many suggestions at that price. Mont in Canberra just had a sale on their new Sentinels, which are solid and well built but it seems to be over now, Cactus in NZ also makes some solid packs but their sales are few and far between (prices are NZD).

  • Paddy Palin have their usual end of year clearance if you still haven't bought.
In store you can bargain a bit more on the prices.
This might suit your requirement: http://www.paddypallin.com.au/osprey-stratos-24-litre-mens-d…

  • I favour Arc'teryx gear. They are not cheap though.
