Wii Sports Resort or Mario Kart for $35.90 with Edge Card

432

EDIT: Do NOT buy Avatar or Spongebob because these have now been added on the exclusion list (?), so they won't accept it for a trade to JB Hifi. However, Bully: Scholarship edition or Spyro is still accepted, so use these to trade instead!

Just came back from my local EB Games… been pretty skeptical about this Wii Sports resort thing, didn't think if would be any good, but I tried just the archery and the basketball 3-point shoot out and I was sold. Anyhow, both these games can be had from JB Hifi's trade 2 Wii games and get either Wii Sports resort or Mario Kart for free (as well as some other games, but I don't rate any of them, so.. well.) Now, EB Games are selling Spongebob Squarepants something something and Avatar something something for $39.95 each, one has a 1/2 price off sticker on it, and the other has a $20 dollar sticker off on it. (Oh yeah, both these games are NOT on JB Hifi's exclusion list.)

Here's the plan, stans: I walked into EB Games, tried the Wii Sports Resort. I was like, wow this game's pretty good! So the lady asked if I wanted to get it, and I mentioned that, well… JB Hifi has this thing where if you trade in 2 Wii games, you can get Wii Sports resort for free, can you match this? And she said that she'd just have to call them up to double check, but yeah it should be fine. Okay now at this point, I confided in her that, well.. I was just planning on buying two of your games, namely the two that I mentioned above, and trade those into JB.. would it be possible for you to save me the trip and just do the entire transaction here? And she was happy to do it, went to the back to call JB, came out and said "Too easy." YAY! Now she rings up the two games which came out to $39.91, and then I flash my Edge card, which gives 10% off pre-owned titles. So the final price is $35.90! Now I did this only for Wii Sports resort, but I think it should work fine for Mario Kart, which is also still on the trade 2, get this game free listing.

I think the trick is to ease them into doing the entire transaction for you.. worst case scenario, you buy the two games for $35.90, and if they refuse trade Mario Kart or Wii Resort at EB Games, then just head over to JB Hifi and get your game there.

Make sure that you head over to the JB Hifi website and look for trade-in deals if you don't know what I'm talking about, and have a look at their excluded games which is at the bottom of that same page, and also know that you won't be able to bring in 2 avatars and 2 spongebobs to get both in one go, you'll have to go on separate occassions as you can't trade in 2 of the same game.

    I highly respect your dodginesss

    • it is a little dodgy, but really there's nothing illegal or morally wrong about it.. it's a bit of a loophole, but since EB Games are happy to match anyone else, then there really isn't much of a problem with it.. i was just surprised that the lady was quite accommodating about the whole thing, in reality she could have said no, especially since they've already basically made their money off me, but then i would have just headed to JB and gotten their trade deal anyhow… she just saved me some time is all. i'm working within the framework or rules set by both companies, it's just funny that basically, instead of selling me their Wii Sports resort for $79, they just sold it to me for $39 by their own doing. if you look around at other sites, there are actually other ways to get it for even cheaper, but by going outside the rules, which is almost just plain scamming, which i disagree with, which i then do not want to see on a site like this.

Yes use there own silly rules against them, they take advantage of people every day why not turn the tables for once…

  • Anyone try this at Parra?

  • I've been trading in the same two games from EBs sale to JB for games under their 2 for 1 offer for over a month now. DO IT ASAP, THE EXCLUSION LIST WILL BE UPDATED SHORTLY.

  • what is edge card?

  • Just did this at Eastland (Ringwood) EB & JB Hifi. Worked fine, i checked with JB before trying and they said it would be all good. Thanks.

  • PLUS for the effort

  • -6

I thought everyone knew about this?

  • I did a similar thing today. I was too lazy to dig through all the games to find the cheapest ones, found two for about $23 after discount, took it the JB within the same Westfield (peeled of some of the stickers on my way as to look less dodgy) and traded them in for Wii Sports Resort. Not the cheapest but much better than paying $70 at Toys-R-Us.

  • creative of you!\

  • Haha, Very smart.

  • Good work… I don't think I'll bother doing this, but all the same, well done.

  • Thanks ranma, did the same thing this morning at Westfield Woden. The girl at EB "couldn't match JB's pre-order sale price" (I'm sure she could have been convinced though) so I walked to JB and traded them in there (as above, with the stickers peeled off).

$40 Wii Sports Resort - Cheers!

  • lets take this one step further.
I've already bought wii sports resort, but only have 1 motion plus controller addon.

I could buy another one, I think they are around 30 bucks? or I could do this, and get the whole game for 35-40 bucks.

Could I then trade in just the sports resort game? or do they want the whole controller package too? what sort of price would I get for it do you think?

    • I don't think you'd be able to trade in the game only as Wii Sports Resorts only comes with the Motion plus controller.

But you could always sell the game privately on its own.

  • Just did it at Knox. Nice saving cheers

    • So why the negative vote?

  • did today… with spongebob and avatar… thanks very much poster

  • i did the same with avatar + spongebob too, cost me $40

then bought an extra motion plus for $27

    total = $67 !!

many thanks to the poster, a 10/10 contribution!

  • did today lunch time. got GST ( including motion) with Legend something $24 plus the GP motor which i got from DSE $388 bundle sale ( i was having trouble to get rid of it, trading value is only $20 something). Big thanks,

  • There were heaps of Bully games that were <$20 left at some EB Games.

Anyways, i got two Bully, one Spongebob, and one Avatar for $74. Traded 4 games in for GST + Motion plus and resort + Motion plus.

Thats TWO games + TWO motion plus for $74.

Note: you're only allow to trade in games once per day, per person.

  • Awesome! Picked it up today! Thanks! :D

  • i got avatar and mythmakers - bit less then 40 dollars :) good stuff..

there r some other games that came up to around 36 bucks before edge offer but too bad I bought it already :) good luck to the rest :)

  • I bought Bully Spyro Avatar and Spongebob for $67.

Got Grand Slam Tennis and Wii Sports :D

  • Just done it today, it come up at 67 including extra motion sensor. Thank you so much :)

Just wondering, anyone know trade in value for this Wii Sport Resort?

Kmart - my sims ($20)- trade in for harry potter game HBP (JB) few weeks ago.
Just trade in at EB ($33) for bully + avatar (0.70c extra)
Trade for sport resort at jb

    • ?

  • Today I went EBgames Highpoint with jbhifi exclusion list and one of my old game (Big brain Academy), bought Bully for $17.45, hearing me going to jb, they offered me the same deal after confirming with JB over phone!

    • good job! I thought that Bully and Spyro were on the exclusion list, but I must be mistaken! Ooops if I looked around more I could've gotten it cheaper myself! HO-WELL

      • he he, the exclusion list they have is pretty old it seems, down the bottom it says v12 29-05-09

        http://www.jbhifi.com.au/games/excluded-games.pdf

      • When everyone says Bully are they talking Bully or The Ant Bully? Cause the EB website doesnt have Bully for Wii listed…

        • Bully: Scholarship Edition, I got it from eb highpoint for $ 17.45.Ant Bully is on the jb exclusion list!

  • Trade in 2 wii games (Boom Blox and My sims city which I bought from Target when they were on special $14.95ea) for Free Wii Sports Resort at JB Hi-Fi and bought an additional motion plus for $27. Guess what I'll be doing this weekend LOL.

  • i can imagine the exclusion list on JB to be adding Spongebob and Avatar soon :P

  • Just to comment, Wii Sports Resort is FUN. Seriously, I really thought that this was just going to be another Wii Sports that I'd try once and forget, but this is not the case… the Samurai Showdown sword thing???? HOW GREAT IS IT???? And it seems now that you can have it for less than $35.90 if you grab Bully at 17.45 and maybe Spyro. I totally recommend everyone get it now.

  • instead of getting the extra motion plus for $27, just trade in another lot of spongebob + avatar or whatever and get grand slam tennis (motion plus included) - much better value

  • Your brain works like mine. I only paid $299 ($199) for my Wii doing a deal like this. Traded in a ps2 and 10 games all purchased from cash converters for
    $100.

    • I remember doing this a year ago with the GAME deal, $99 and $101 worth of PS2+games purchased from ebgames got you a $438 xBox pack.

  • I have done this across all of my local JB's

The games to look for are-

    (Best)$18-20
    Bully
    Spongebob
    Avatar

    (Ok) $25
    Scarface($22)
    Spyro
    The Simpsons Game
    WWF Smackdown vs Raw 2008

There are a few other $25's but the sale tables are so stacked it is hard to find them. One of the stores I was at said they were packing up the sale tonight, other said they would pack up on the weekend. YMMV

I usually got a mix of all six, or threw in some tradebait I had stocked up.

A couple of pointers for JB stores.
    - The trade-in process is SLOW.
    - Each store only has 1 person that does trades, so you usually you can't walk out, and do a second load. They pull a "manager reserves right to refuse service".
    - They generally let you do 3 trades in a day, they wont do 4 (Even with 8 different games).

BEWARE! Avatar and SpongeBob are now on the exclusion list.

      • http://www.jbhifi.com.au/games/excluded-games.pdf Does not list them.

        What is your source.

I successfully traded both at 12:xx this afternoon.

Either way, if it fails, you can return the games to EB for a cash refund.

        • That is my source. The PDF was updated 26/07/2009. You might have downloaded a cached version. Try saving it as a different name, using a different browser or emptying your cache.

It is possible some stores haven't updated their lists, I'm just going by the pdf file.

          • @Wormetti: Cleared my cache.

So embarrassed. I guess I snuck through trading in today then.

A reminder that I was told by EB staff that their sale finishes tonight 30 July. Last chance to get the $20ish games for trade.

A bit rude I think that JB seem to be updating their exclusions list very regularly.

My workmate's son compiled this list which should help you in your search. But double check a title with JB as the exclusion list keeps growing!

    • What so are these the prices EB are selling the games for atm or are these for before the 30th July?

  • Damn miss out the Fun Fair Party @ Target.

    • Funfair Party is on JB's exclusion list, so no loss there.

  • Can I just ask. Are JB obliged to accept/honour trade ins for wii sports resort as long as the games are not on the exclusion list? Does it depend on the store?

Also, do they accept UK PAL versions of games cause I have a UK game I want to trade in. Surely they would right since some of the games they sell in stores are the UK version anyway with just an aussie ratings sticker over it.

Oh and has anyone done this trade in offer with mario kart? Cause in the JB catalogue it doesn't list mario kart in the 'free when you trade in 2 games' section.

  • if I trade @ eb & don't like the game would I able to return it to get store credit or exchange to other title?

    • If you "Don't like the game" they will give you store credit upon return.

  • Yes Mario Kart is part of the same deal but it isn't listed in their catalog. I have seen the same sticker on it at the Mac Centre store Sydney. I believe this deal end this weekend.

Although the EB Games sale is over, they now have a BUY 2 GET 1 FREE deal on trade-ins, so you can still get the same trade-in games from EB for under $40 if you choose carefully and then trade-in for $0 and get SPORTS RESORT, TIGER WOODS GOLF 10 or GRAM SLAM TENNIS all with motion plus included.
