SIM For traveling around Europe

Heya!

First time going to Europe and will be there for about 3-4 months. I will be in many different countries so was wondering if anyone could recommend me the best SIM plan. Sure I can use wifi but really don't want to rely on it. I will mainly use it for texting and data (mainly to prevent myself from ending up in a back alley or something lol)

Thanks.

  • Three do "Feels like Home" that gives you roaming in certain countries on the same basis as the 'home' country.

From the UK that includes Austria, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Norway, Finland and Australia.

You can also get Addon packs for other EU countries, data, etc.

Could be the best bet to get that SIM in the UK and use whilst travelling in the other countries. Not sure there is anything available here that would come close

Gives you a guide on europe. I used this to find out providers whilst I was in Europe… found it very useful.

  • Maybe Woolies have a simple solution that you can buy in Australia Global Roaming

  • I spent a month in Europe in April.

I used global gig. It worked ok, can be slow sometimes but that's probably normal for mobile internet.

One thing to watch out for is banking websites. They sometimes send confirmations via SMS. So enable global roaming on your normal sim card just for receiving SMS. Shouldn't cost anything but check anyways.

But if you're worried about getting lost, get an offline map app like "maps 2go". Helped me a lot and is aimed towards tourists.

  • Check out whirlpool forums. The topic has been discussed in depth there.

I have used toggle mobile. THe service can come with an AU number so family and friends can call you for the cost of a local mobile call. Most places in europe have no incoming call charges. Call rates back home to au are approx 6c/min. Can pick up a sim off ebay before going.

  • If you are on australian vodafone mobile plan, you can opt for $5/day to use your existing allowance while overseas.. I reckon this is a really unbelievable value.. Limit ofjust 90 days but.
