Motorbike Theft insurance

Hi,

I'm moving to a new area that doesn't have a garage. I've considered security devices, but decided against the trouble.

I've got a CBR250R

InsureMyRide has quoted my $184 per year (includes $5000 cover, $400 excess).

I wouldn't mind insuring it for less (ie $3500) but InsureMyRide don't give you that option.

Who is cheapest for theft insurance?

InsureMyRide is by far the cheapest provider I have found for bike insurance out of any of the major players (AAMI, Swann, Allianz (LOL)).

Check out QBE as well to see if they will beat a quote from InsureMyRide.

I currently have my Hyosung GT650S insured for third party + fire + theft with AAMI for ~200 per year, agreed value $6700.

$184 per year is about as good as it's going to get if you are in a major capital city (and if you are in Sydney, its a bargain).

You'd struggle to replace your CBR250R with ~$3100 after excess is paid if you only insured it for $3500. I would be seeking to insure the bike for its maximum, rather than minimum value…

    • sound advice

  • I'm with QBE as well. Currently paying $400 for 3rd Party fire and theft to insure my CBR250RR and CBR600RR. If you can help it put the bike in the house. Serious. Its not as uncommon as you think. If i had room at home i would piss the insurance off altogether and keep the bike in doors.

  • QBE said they couldn't match just theft, had to be comprehensive. Don't know if that was true tho, probably because insure my ride is so cheap. Ends up being $184 for Theft (covering $5000) and $2000 in modifications. Unreal.

  • Another question-

My home address has a garage where I keep the bike most of the time. However, I spend some nights at another house that doesn't have a garage.

What would happen if the bike gets stolen parked on the street over night?

  • Read the PDS. But i would imagine that its covered under theft. I know mine is.
