Can I use VPN on Amazon Fire TV?

Can anyone confirm if Amazon Fire TV supports VPN so I can watch American channels?

  • Looks like it works with some serious hackery.

You need to gain root to your device.

You need to install the TUN/TAP driver custom built for the Kindle Fire (attached in above thread).

You need to load the driver via adb.

You then use your regular VPN application. In my case, I run my own openvpn server/tunnel. I don't use any of the 3rd party services, specifically those that bundled their own brand of openvpn. So YMMV.

Having said all of that, I bought the Kindle FireTV. I will report back depending if successful or not.

  • You sure can, just go into settings and update the dns in the network options

    • Have you actually tried it? I know services like unblock-us and getflix work fine on the PC and the like, but I can't get either to work on the Fire TV. Next for me to try is VPN via my router running DDWRT.

  • Finally I installed VPN on Fire TV: http://www.vpntips.com/fire-tv-vpn-install/ a lot of work (need to root it etc.) but it worked.
