Looking for amp to drive my Pioneer SP-BS22LR speaker

Hi Ozbargainers,

I've just received pair of Pioneer BS22LR speakers but have no idea which amp would drive them, I have some criteria and (noob) questions:

  1. Can I put these to my car (I knew that's insane question)
  2. I would spend 50 bucks or less (maybe +-$10)on amp
  3. do you think this poor quality amp http://www.ebay.com/itm/231138248006?ssPageName=STRK:MEBOFFX… can handle speakers?

EDIT: after a hard research, now I have plenty of options need to be helped

  1. http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-Audio-DTA-120-Digital-Amplifier…
  2. http://www.amazon.com/Topping-TK2050-TC2000-Digital-Amplifie…
  3. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Indeed-TA2021-Class-T-Tripath…

which one do you think can offer the best audio sound or best bang for the buck

  • Hey Ntt,
May I ask from where you bought the speakers from?
    Thanks

    • oh hi coolstan, I bought from Rio with 119 bucks, you can find a post in here

      • Thanks Ntt

Hi Ntt, I bought the SP-BS22LR's as well. Awesome speakers. You can drive them with a lepai LP2020A, I myself chased down a decent Sony AV amp (non HDMI) for an absolute steal at $32 off ebay.
Would be a strange idea to me to put them in your car though (and a waste I think). Try setup in your computer area or living room.

    • Hey stevil,

Can you explain how to connect all the devices for my computer setup?

    • What's the model of your amp, is that sound great? I'm afraid LP2020 can't handle these speakers

My amp is a Sony STR DE695. Obviously its got a few years under the belt but for 32 bucks its brilliant. People seem to be almost throwing away their old receivers when upgrading to full HDMI. Ntt, are you sure the LP2020 can't handle the speakers? From what I've been reading they seem to be driving bookshelf speakers of this size fairly well. I'm definitely no expert though.

    • I don't know, what I am afraid is the sound distortion. I know people is throwing away their old fashion receiver and amp, but the only thing is I don't know which one I can grab because I have no knowledge about these fields.

You will be fine with the Lepai, just need to upgrade the power supply to give it a bit more juice. Just google it and do your research, you will be fine.

    • Thanks for your reply stevil.

I am looking to get a set of speakers for my laptop. preferably Pioneer SP-BS22LR.

I have the audioegine D1 which I use along with my headphones.

My question is how do I configure my speaker setup.

      Thanks again.

      • I think you just buy speakers and speaker cables to hook it up! that's all. You have a nice DAC

        • Thanks ntt

          Is that all?

I'm confused why you need the Lepai and the av amp then? :) Sorry its a noob question.

I think LePai is cheaper than yours (24 compare to 170), and also yours is DAC (digital thing) compare to analog amp. Sorry I'm a noob too, can't explain clearly, that's why I'm here

        • Ok. I see. Two noobs together..noobness to the heights :) just kidding..
Lepai functions same as D1 to drive speakers and Av amp is for the source I believe.

Ok so I just had a look into the audioengine D1. It will provide a quality analogue sound output from your computer source, output it with RCA cables to your Lepai which then has your speakers connected to it.

All in all it should sound really great when you get it up and kicking! Does that make sense? Anyone else feel free to weigh in here if they have better ideas btw.

        • Thanks Stevil for your input. I appreciate it. Explained perfectly. Have a nice day!

        • Not at all Ntt. you put in a good perspective. Thanks!

  • Ok I bought a SMSL SA-98E http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMSL-SA-98E-160W-2-Big-Power-HIFI-Di…

And can't wait for delivery, hope it sound good. Thank you for your inputs

The Andrew Jones speakers were rated the best bang for buck on the market, spending $50 on an amp would be nuts. I suggest getting a decent 2 channel stereo amp off eBay to drive them. I have found that 5.1 receivers don't sound as nice as a dedicated 2 channel

A DAC is a waste of time, they are a gimic to con people into buying things they don't need. Whatever you store your digital files on will have a DAC and anyone who says they can tell the difference has their hand on it.
To cut story short, they convert digital signals to analogue, some have built in amps, but the signal still needs to be amplified.

    • I bought both the above amp and 6.1 Yamaha receiver, however, I feel my receiver sounds better. Experts who suggested me to buy the mini amp tell another story

      • Hey ntt, are you listening through the speakers from a pc/laptop?
