Is there any such thing as a true wireless speaker?

I'm finding my little ipod dock is pretty inadequate, as it sits in the centre of the room and doesn't project very well and there's no feeling of the sound coming from all sides…

What I'd like is a 2 speaker system (or more) with at least one of the speakers being totally wireless - battery powered and no speaker cable.
Does something like this even exist? I actually don't mind a power adapter attaching to it, but I don't want some 10m speaker cable connecting the right and left speakers across the room, as I've got nowhere to conceal it.

I'm off to the US soon and would love to pick something up from Amazon cheap, but every system seems to involve a left-right speaker connection :(

Thanks for any advice!

  • the UE Boom comes to mind. it has a cylinder shape so it projects in 360 degrees. it's designed to fill your room.
it's wireless and seems pretty easy to use.

I'm sure there are other similar speakers, but that's just one I recall of.

edit: read the post again and noticed I missed the whole 2 speakers thing.
Worth noting this UE Boom speaker has an option to pair 2 of them with each doing a channel.
Other speakers probably do the same thing.

    • Cool thanks for the option. Any idea if the two can be paired wirelessly or do you need to connect them with speaker wire?

      • Just contacted a Logitech reseller and they said totally wireless and synchs music via the app. Not sure how that works if you are playing from a PC or ancient iPod.

  • I picked up one of these in China
    Absolutely love it
    Bluetooth connectivity
    Pause and skip tracks
    charges from usb (pc etc)

    • Weird it says 2.1 but from the pics it just looks like a single standalone unit?

  • Ta Da! Modular speakers from Creative

Great thing is you can buy them one at a time without any of them being dependent on one another. Can't speak for how good they actually are but they meet your requirements.

    • Woah sweet it looks like that does the job. Damn they are big though! I was thinking just two smallish speakers, a tissue box size or smaller. Going to have to investigate further

      • They do have other speaker lines that are smaller but I don't think they link up together.

  • How much do you want to spend? Bose have a couple of options but be prepared to pay a premium. PC Mag did a comparasion on some of the options…As did CNET
