Somehow stumble on this one — can't find the page on RaboDirect's page but only available in that little popup Updated: thanks to EC who PM'ed me the direct link. It's also for business (rather than for individuals) that have some cash that needs to be parked somewhere. Basically, open a business account at RaboDirect, use promo code REBELS14, have $25,000 or more in the account by the year end, and they'll give you an iPad mini for free.

    They have stopped commenting publically on their Facebook page, I guess they think silence will end up being the better policy and people will forget about it. Probably wise from their POV, not so much from the rest of us!

    Both myself and my dad signed up our respective company accounts for this deal when we got the emails that the offer had expired. Regardless of how/why/when their "marketing" department excuses about ending the deal are made, the ultimate result is they may have signed us on for decades. Not going to happen now - if you don't want to try hard to win our business, you won't get it.

    Just got a phone call from Rabo to say that I am getting the iPad in the mail. Will get it sometime next week. Awesome deal thanks OP!

    Just in case you are wondering I appiled on that Thursday night the deal was posted. Handed in documents on the Wednesday after in person and account opened on Friday with 25k deposited on same day.

    Friend of mine also got confirmation and he deposited the money like two days ago.

    Also we are both legit business owners.

    BTW I found thier customer service to be impeccable when I went to thier Sydney office to hand in my docs. Staff was more than helpful and kept me up to date.

      I would give them a call directly, there is a chance if they received it the account may be open already just waiting to send you the Welcome Pack. You just need the BSB and account number which they will give to you over the phone. Thats how I got my money into the account so quickly, customer service was great they called me as soon as the account number was avaliable on Friday arvo. If you wait for the Welcome pack I was told it can take 5 business day from the point the account was open.

      I went into this not expecting much as I thought it was too good to be true, but it ended up well for me. Goodluck to everyone else who applied.

      What a joke. Two people get ipads (presumably not many more because exile went to pretty clever lengths to make sure he was speedy) and now they are out of stock? This promotion was meant to last to 31/12. They must have had 250 ipads still left to make it the extra 6 months.

      really poor form from Rabo, I bet all the marketing team's kids all get ipads for Christmas this year

    Ripper deal. I opened it on 27/6 and they closed the offer the very next day however they have honoured the deal for me and I got an email from them 3/7/14 saying that the iPad was being mailed to me that day! Wow. I am impressed.

    When I spoke to them they said that the offer had been in existence since March with very little take-up but that after the Ozbargain posting, that things went crazy and they suddenly had new customers flooding in for that offer each day equal to what otherwise they had received each month!

      Some people will get the ipads. Sure. But the majority wont. And the point of the promotion was to increase their customer base. Well that certainly happened by the sound of it, but why take down the offer then?

      I'm a business owner, if my sales grew on one day to the same level I had all month I would be happy about it. If I removed my new customers' reason for coming to me then I would expect them to walk away with a sour experience.

        In this case it's a special promotion when RaboDirect sponsored Melbourne Rebels, i.e. the Rugby Union team. Why spend big $$$ sponsoring a sports team when you can post on OzBargain.

    nearly 10 days have gone and still trying to open the account, but this Rabodirect bank looks like a pain to deal with, no one knows what is going on and not correspondence from their end.

      Forgive me for my curiosity. Why are you still trying to open the account, as Franconian and apate confirmed above that ipad minis are out of stock? Have they brought new stocks?

      I talked to a customer service lady on 4/7/2014 afternoon and she mentioned that “We didn’t get any notice that Ipad Minis are out of Stock, so there are still few left”. I was really confused but deposited required money anyway.

          I did the same. Even though Customer Service told me no more ipads I thought it might be BS. Or maybe they might even buy some more and make good on the offer. So I deposited last week. I haven't heard from them yet.

    I got a call from Rabo customer service this afternoon, it seems I've been lucky enough to get an iPad. I was told they posted it to me yesterday (apparently they allocate and ship all ipads on Wednesdays). FYI, I deposited my $25k on friday 4/7.

    I asked how many more ipads were left (so I could inform my fellow OzBs) but got the usual "we don't know, only the marketing team knows" response.

      Final update: iPad mini arrived today in the post. Along with the 'Rebels supporter pack' which included a Gilbert medium-sized rugby ball, a KooGa Rebels beanie and a Kooga Rebels scarf. All official merchandise so if you're from Melbourne or otherwise follow the Rebels its not a bad kit as a bonus.

    Thanks for the positive feedback. It does not look good for me though. I followed up on the account opening and my account has not been opened. They requested another form regarding US Tax Declaration (FATCA). I have nothing to do with the US and don't understand why this is even required.

    It looks like they don't want to open the account and only a small group of people will get their Ipads.

    I think Rabobank was playing it smart. They just wanted to weed out the non-genuine applicants. I was genuinely looking for a place to put my business money anyway, so when the deal came along, I applied. I transferred quite a bit more then the minimum required as I had a bad interest rate elsewhere. I took a few days with documents and all. And I got an iPad in the mail in the end.

      They might have been too smart for their own good. I'm sure they weeded out plenty of non-genuine applicants, but have you seen the comments people left for them on Facebook? It's left a very sour taste in lots of peoples mouths. They've saved giving out hundreds of iPads but copped lots of negative marketing sentiment.

      I called this just then and the customer service rep Donna said that marketing check on Wednesdays whether there is any stock left. She also did indicate that they do not inform you any longer whether you received one or not?? and they just post them out??

      Don't know whether that is a good sign or not but that's what the service rep Donna said when I told her I deposited the money on the 07/07/14.

        I finally got my iPad mini (together with the Rebels scarf, beanie and rugby ball) today. It's a 1st gen iPad mini 16GB in white.

        I made my deposit on 8 July 2014 and thought I would have missed out. I wrote an email to RaboDirect on Monday 28 July complaining about not receiving anything, while I could see other people here got their iPad minis when they deposited later than me. I never received a reply.

        But to my surprise a courier turned up this morning with the promotional freebies package. I guess it will help to write RaboDirect an email if you opened the account before the deal got shut down and made the deposit. I'm a happy business owner now and will use this account to park my business saving.

    I run a number of legitimate small businesses and while i must credit the OP for bringing this deal to my attention, i have been really impressed with Rabo Direct's service. Emails when i have been missing documentation, acknowledgements of received documentation, phone calls to remind me i was missing something and a call just to see if they could help with anything else. I only get called from my other banks when they want to sell me a peripheral product like insurance… I admit however that the account opening process was quite onerous, but i can forgive that because it's a business account. And to top it all off i got a pleasant surprise by courier this morning; our iPad mini, scarf, beanie and mini rugby ball! Thank-you Mr Rabo Direct.

    For those interested, i deposited the funds on or about the 17/7.

    Just an update. I received my mini and merchandise pack last week.
    Paperwork was lodged about a week after the deal was removed.
    It did take 3 weeks from when the $25k went in. I called them a few times on status and they were nice so I was really polite.
    Thumbs up to Rabo for honoring the deal. And to OP for the updated status threads and deal.

    If I can I will double positive this deal. Signed up on the week of this deals posting. Thanks Scott! However they had trouble opening my account and it took until early AUG to open it. Then another week before my security device and then my pin arrives. I was like surely the iPad mini were all gone. But nonetheless I didn't mind putting some savings into their account. So finished the 25k deposits on 19th Aug. We didn't ring them or bug them about it. Then today we got the email confirming our ipad mini is on its way.
