Anyone know of a cheap/decent Steam Cleaning place for an end of lease steam clean

Ok so moving out of my place and looking to organise an end of lease steam clean on Sunday 29 June 2014. Spoke to Ultra Clean Melbourne thats listed on OzBargain and theyd quoted $49 to steam clean my studio apartment but now they cant do it cos Im on the first floor without an elevator. So was hoping to get a steam clean on my place room is like 3x4 metres not big for around $50 or cheaper. Just wondering if you lovely guys on OzBargain might be able to suggest anyone thats any good. And also Im in Melbourne/Inner North. Thanks :)

  • Have you considered hiring one from Coles/Woollies or Bunnings. You can then go over areas that need more attention, or even clean it, wait till it dries and clean it again if it is really dirty. If you hire for one day, with chemicals, will be around $50. I prefer the Rug Doctor one as I find it is easier to use. You could clean your lounge suite or car seats at the same time.

    • Do you happen to know off the top of your head how much it costs to hire from Coles, Woolies or Bunnings?

(sorry to hijack your thread, OP lol)

I've read that steam cleaning isn't all that great - that it doesn't 100% fully dry the carpets and can actually make any dampness/mould etc issues worse in the long run. Is that true? Anyone familiar with this topic?

We have a long, shaggy carpet and I just worry about it not doing the greatest job.

      • +1

This is somewhat true. I have 4 boys so carpet cleaning is something I do a lot! I have tried the dry cleaning and other types but, from my experience, they just don't remove the stains as well as steam cleaning. If your carpet just needs refreshing or is just a little grubby with very few stains then I would think dry cleaning would be fine. If your carpet is quite dirty or stained then steam cleaning is the way to go. You are correct in that it doesn't leave your carpets dry, it doesn't. If you do it yourself you can go back over the carpet and "vacuum" as much water out as you can.

If the room you are cleaning has poor ventilation or the weather is cold and wet then you may have issues with it drying however I doubt that it would go mouldy, unless you have other issues causing the mould. Fans help dry the carpet quicker and I put towels down through the hall way to walk on.

        • Cheers for the info!

      • $39.90 for 24 hours, $49 for 48 hours at Woolworths (from the start of the year when I was still working there). Upholstery tool is extra (around $5 I think?)

        Chemicals are around $10-15

    • They usually require a receipt stating that it has been professionally done.

  • Does your lease specify Steam Cleaning required on end on tenancy? In NSW it has to be agreed to on signing lease.

  • Yep its all arranged on lease etc that Ive got to steam clean it when leaving. Also I did actually think of hiring those machines from Coles/Woolies etc cos my Mum used to get them but I have to give them a receipt for the steam clean. So Im thinking maybe I have to get a professional to do it. Anyway should probably be able to get someone else to do it for the same price. I did get another quote on gumtree for $45 kind of thinking theyre a bit dodge but not sure. Guess its ok.. what could go wrong?? I guess

  • Ask your real estate agent, they usually have recommended steam cleaners, use them if reasonable, minimizing the risk of screwing up

  • Ive already booked a guy from Imminent Cleaning Services. Found him on Gumtree but he's also got a website and he's quoted $70 for a steam clean on a Sunday and the quotes including removal of a minor mark on the floor which may come out with a normal steam clean but thinking might need a bit more tlc. Anyway all of it for $70, seems alright. Will let you know how it goes if anyone else is looking for someone.
