Where to buy robot vacuum cleaners?

Hi Guys,

Was hoping to buy a robot vaccume cleaner either the roomba 880 or the new Samsung model but I can't find anywhere locally to buy them.

Any suggestions? I tried ebay but they are all international sellers. Harvey normal had a deal on the Samsung but I missed it :(

Thanks!

Looks like your auto correct is broken

  • Amazon. My Neato just arrived, awesome thing for around $300 delivered.

  • Don't bother - useless piece of crap - worst contraption I was ever stupid enough to buy. My only joy from it is watching the thing try to rotate around to do all that was promised - it loves to stick to all chair legs & any other furniture. By the time you have spent watching it's movements & gone back to manoveure it to a new spot as it gets stuck everywhere you could have easily vacuumed round with a conventional cleaner. Also it cannot find it's homebase to recharge & just gives up the ghost before finishing. It will find a new home shortly - the big green bin that gets emptied weekly.Don't waste your money.

    • I'd be interested (and probably the OP) in which brand/model you had as "oil's ain't oils"?
We had a Roomba Discovery 5250 (the original brand) for about 5 years starting 2006 (well 2, the first one broke and was replaced under warranty). It cleaned pretty well and my only gripe was buying a new battery every year (imported from USA as they were a ripoff locally). You really need to see one working and decide if it will work for you. Also, you need to change your strategy - vacuum often and try different things until it works for you. A bit of upfront work and in the right house its a marvel.
So why don't we have one any more? A couple of reasons - kids are older and less messy, and we replaced the light coloured carpet with ceramic tiles in our living area. However we are reconsidering it as we now have a messy indoor dog and robo's are popular with pet owners.

  • Have to completely disagree with this. I have an iRobot Roomba 760 and it keeps our house floors spotless. Runs everyday when we are out of the house so we don't care how long it takes and not having to ever vacuum the house manually is priceless as far as we are concerned. We have 2 cats and 1 dog in the house, so it has to work hard and does a great job.

To answer the original queayion. We used www.ozrobots.com.au best price I could find at the time for local stock.

  • what ever you do, do not buy a robot vacuum cleaner from aldi there is no support and consumable parts ie:filters are available only from hong kong and only available via a series of e-mail messages. found this out the hard way. good luck.

  • The reason you can't buy the 8 series here is because they are USA models.
Australia official models are the Roomba 630, 760 and 780. The latter 2 models are obsolete I believe since there is a new range coming out soon.
The Roomba 630 was chosen last year by choice for consumers to be the best one, this year it is the LG VR6270LVMB

Streamaster Australia sell both (I am a bit biased since I know the owner)

  • Thanks guys!

After reading up there seemed to be a lot of comparison between the Roomba 880 and samsung irobot sr8980.

Since i couldn't get the Roomba 880 and hate being someone who buys something a version old i ended up getting the SR8980 from Hardly normal. Showed them the Ozbargain post someone had and they price matched it for me :)

  • I've been doing the research on overseas robot vacuums and the Neato comes up trumps on most websites. Especially the new Botvac 80/85 which has the highest suction, widest brush and most intelligent on board computer to clean an entire room in the shortest time. The only problem is trying to find a shop that ships to Australia and offers a warranty (even if you have to post it back to USA). Does anyone know where to buy them from?
