What's with the posting of receipts?

It offers proof of purchase to back up the bargain claim on this site, but I realize it can be used to get a similar deal from another store or a competitor.

How do you guys approach this ? Do you ring ahead saying you've downloaded a receipt off a website and are wanting the same deal?

And what reception do you get? Do sales staff just laugh and walk off or do they capitulate and do the deal?

Genuinely curious.

I've just walked in with the receipt showing on screen of iPad and have been successful in getting price match/beat a few times - JB, Good Guys.

I've never been asked where the receipt is from, or if I know them etc. I guess it's not really relevant in terms of price match commitment. The weirder bit for me is that they never look at where the purchase was made. I'm in Darwin, so the fact that Person X was able to buy at that price at a physical store in Brisbane seems more relevant to the issue. It's not really a direct competitor…. as in I can't drive down the road and buy the product at the competition.

Bunnings however insisted on calling the (local) store, asking if the sale price was current and if they had stock before they would price beat.

  • Quite surprised ppl aren't photo shopping these on a regular basis.

    • Jailtime just to save a few bux ? No thanks
If you're smart enough to use photoshop, then you'd be smart enough not to do it - it's white collar crime.

    • The reason why is that only a very desperate/misguided serial-crook would be bothered or motivated to 'photo-shop' a receipt from one supplier, to maybe get a one-off discount from another supplier… that's not the aim of this website at all…

From my experience, it is always easier to tell them the price and haggle then it is to price match a non-original receipt.

Most big retailers in sydney metro region are aware about ozbargain receipts nowadays and it is up to the discretion of the manager on floor to either allow the price match or not.

It's all a matter of finding the right sales person with high incentive to make sales happen.
