Notebook $500-$700 Reasonable good battery with longevity

Hi All,

A friend is after a new laptop to use for work as well as plugging into her tv (HDMI port) to watch catch up tv, movies etc.

I'm not sure if it is possible in this price bracket but is there a chance to get something with:
Current gen i5
500gb HDD or 128-256 SSD
Intel 4600-5000
reasonable battery

for between $500-$700 hoping to be closer to the bottom but may be dreaming.

Cheers,
FFP

  • You'll struggle to get anything in that price range with an SSD, but something with a 500gb hdd should be manageable. Others will probably post better deals but if not I've still got one of the acers from a deal from ages back sitting brand new in my wardrobe. You can purchase it from my website here. http://www.riczterinc.com.au/products/acer-aspire-v5-573.htm… It should be free shipping. Let me know if any issues, i haven't updated the site in ages.
Decent laptop and great design for a female with the champagne gold colour. But I'm the seller, so therefore biased so do your own research before purchasing. If others post a better deal I may be able to negotiate the price a little bit. PM me though, I dont think the forums are meant for selling.

  • Macbook Air has been having sales recently, $850 the other day.
Bargain at that price. Battery life, weight is nearly untouched by any.

  • have you found anything? as I am looking as well, hoping to find a good deal :-)

  • Heres another one: http://www.dicksmith.com.au/laptops-notebooks/toshiba-satell… :) I think mine looks better :P

  • Not as of yet. Thinking about the ThinkPad E440, upgrade the base model to Intel Core i5-4210M Processor -nVPro for $655 delivered.

The one above is an ultrabook processor and has 4400 which is from review noticeably worse than the 4600 or 5000

    • Fair call, yeah the i5 processors with a U (for ultrabook?) on the end are lower performance, but also more efficient i believe, so the battery lasts longer. Depends whats more important to you at your price range i guess.
