Bike trainers

World cup and Le Tour at the same time, to celebrate this holy convergance I am after a bike trainer. It would be fun to join the tour de lounge ( bit late I know) I have had a look around and understand there are three main types magnetic, fluid and resistance.
Apart from that I have no idea what I should be buying, I'm an Oz bargain kinda guy but don't want to end up with rubbish.I'm also over 6'3 and 110kg so I tend to brake cheap crap really quickly through normal use, I'd be using it on a mountain bike, cos thats what I got.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, of course a true Ozbargainer would just go outside and use the road, but my two young'uns can't keep up with me when they are on their balance bikes……thnx

  • I'd avoid magnetic, it might just be my cheapo old exercise bike, but i've found that they give a really uneven level of resistance as you complete a revolution. This leads to it feeling unnatural and not something i can mindlessly do while watching TV

  • cheers, thinking of avoiding resistance too….so that leaves the fluid
