Mirrorless Camera recommendations for less than $800

Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a mirrorless camera for my holiday coming up, preferably something less than $800. I was originally thinking the Sony a6000 but it seems to be a bit out of my price range for both the body and the 16-50mm lens.

Can anyone recommend a mirrorless camera (preferably something that's not too bulky) for less than $800?

  • If you can't afford the A6000, get the NEX 6. Honestly if it's the kit lens you're gonna use, you won't need that upgraded auto-focus. NEX 6 can be had for $500 from grey importers

Panasonic gm 1 gets good reviews, is very compact and is just within budget:

Plus if you ever wanted to expand on your lens set up you'll have a lot of options.

  • I have had the GM1 for about a month now and love it. I've travelled with it and used it for everyday use.

As jinxsphinx says, the ability to access a wide range of lenses, rather than just the sony ones, is great (from my understanding that's the limitation with the Sony m43 cameras)…

I bought mine from eglobal for about $600AU shipped. I then was able to sell the kit lens for $300 on gumtree and bought the 20mm f1.7 II pancake lens for a steal at $280 shipped, which is smaller and faster and offers superb quality.

The camera is awesome, incredibly portable and a real powerhouse in a pocket package…
