Someone stole my hot water system....

So I live in townhouse in a block of 12 out Sydney West. We all use those on demand hot water systems that hooked up to gas and heats it up as you need it.

I woke up this morning to have a hot shower, turn it on and its cold water. Ok so my gas ran out, walk outside and switch the gas bottles and then noticed that my entire system on the wall was stolen.

I've called the police and said they would be around later, but my question is how common is this? I've never heard of someone stealing a hot water system before.

Hats off to the thief as it wouldnt have been easy but they could have at least done it in summer.

    I'm mainly worried if my laptop gets stolen that all the porn I have on it might be somehow compromising. Maybe I should just leave a post-it note to would-be thieves if they could just delete it before flogging it off on gumtree.

    We Are currently building a property in a new estate. The Cladding was stolen off the front of the house and off the roof gable too. However they left the broken ones still attached and the carpet has been rolled up and taken too. So annoyed

    Sorry to hear this has happened to you Yes; unfortunately stealing appliances etc. is very common, on new estates in particular, especially on weekends I believe. We live in the Casey district, Victoria with an exceptional numver of new developments, and hear a lot in the newspapers about these brazen thiefs, asses they are (being nice) especially as nothing much worse than losing a hot water service. Ask your neighbors around if they have seen anyone (possibly soneone looking the part of a trafesman) there. When I worked for Census many neighbours were taking down my registration number, which was good to hear. Trouble for you is that these types of thieves may come back and do the deed again. Neighbour in new unit next to me was burgled twice, possibly the same thieves. They have selected days I was out. The last time was Mothers Day! They even took advantage of the fact I was out to escape via my property. Unfortunately my other neighbours would have purposedly looked the other way. See if you instal some camera security system and have a chat to neighbours. Good luck.
