ME Bank PayPass card issues

Anybody else having issues with their ME Bank PayPass card, or just me? I know they were doing maintenance on the weekend, but you'd think they'd have resolved any issues by Tuesday afternoon.

Today I tried to use PayPass three times using my ME Bank card, but it only worked once. The card read properly but the transaction was denied. It also failed last Thursday night then twice over the weekend. I have at least $300 sitting in the account, but the only transaction that worked was for less than $15. Another one for $12 failed before that, so it's not because there's not enough money in the account.

Now their online banking just shows up a page:

Oops - we're sorry.
Internet banking is busy right now.

We would like to apologise to all customers who continue to be affected by limited access to internet, phone and mobile banking.

We understand the significant inconvenience this has caused many of you.

While our systems are now back up and running after a planned system upgrade on the weekend, we are experiencing unprecedented volumes of traffic which is affecting some customers’ ability to access internet, phone and mobile banking.

Our technical team will work through the night to improve access and we will keep you updated on any progress.

Please be aware our ATM and card services have not been affected and the problem is limited to internet, phone and mobile banking.

It's very annoying as I could have saved nearly $15 if the card worked and I received the 5% discount. Instead I had to use another card. A bit disturbing too when you can't access your own money! I won't ever be trusting ME Bank with large sums.

FWIW I couldn't log in via Internet banking during the day yesterday, and mobile banking was timing out.

I managed to eventually log into Internet banking late last night.. not good to hear it hasn't been working for you :(

Paypass worked OK Sunday morning for me

  • Tip: Get your money outta there - Quick.

  • yeah i couldnt log in yesterday either, worked fine last night tho, MITM, u know something we dont?

  • Dunno, it worked for me, transferred $3k out and also used Paypass twice.

ME Bank have got to have the worst internet banking I've ever seen.
I'd recommend take your business elsewhere.

Their facebook page shows some disgruntled customers - may be worth a look.

  • Go with a real bank not one made up of super funds. I'm with Westpac for the vast bulk of my banking and I wouldn't bother switching.

    • I'm only using it for the 5% discount. Already used up my 6 months of ING 5% rebates, so had to move on. I wouldn't use ME Bank for anything vital!

  • "unprecedented volumes of traffic", my eye. From what I can see, ME Bank are in panic mode, with serious data loss as a result of their weekend 'systems upgrade'.

In my case, they changed the account numbers of three term deposits, as they'd said they would, but they also,

    1. Erased the descriptive name I'd given to each TD to remind me of its maturity date;
    2. Apparently lost their record of the TD maturity dates, as these are no longer shown under TD details; and
    3. Reduced the (fixed!) interest rate on all three TDs from 3.9% to 3.71%!

Access to their online banking is still extrememely flaky - if you manage to log on, you can see account balances, but when you try to actually do anything, you get an 'Online banking is unavailable' message. If you persist, the system kicks you out. And good luck getting any phone help - I've been waiting since Monday for a callback.

  • I transferred some money out yesterday before noon. Money still has not arrived destination bank account.
It looks like big headache to deal with this.

My paypass has not worked on random occasions as well, I think it's just their unreliable systems

    • That's really the only reason I signed up with them, for the PayPass 5% rebates. If it doesn't work properly, there's not much point having it. The three occasions it did work for me saved me about $10 already though, but the five or six times it's failed could have earned me another $15. It adds up. Hopefully they'll get it right soon (before my rebate period expires!)
