Not sure why you feel it is a health risk. Unless you are breathing over 90% helium for several minutes you'll be fine to make as many funny voices as you would like.
And if you over do it, you will get light headed and pass out, which will allow you to get back to a normal gaseous balance, unless somebody else keeps the helium to your face. Which would be weird, unless they were trying to kill you.
SCUBA divers use helium/oxygen tanks routinely for deep dives.

  • Look into Balloon Time.

    http://www.discountpartywarehouse.com.au/products/8487-Heliu…

    Stores in Lidcombe and Campbelltown.

I've seen Balloon Times on special in Big W catalogues too but I'm not sure if they're a regularly stocked item. Worth looking into in case they can do it cheaper though!

Or you can hire a tank (no prices listed here though): http://www.spotlight.com.au/departments/party/balloon-inflat…

There's a party store in Top Ryde shopping centre too, if that's close to you. They've got heaps of stuff and tonnes of balloons you can inflate yourself. They might sell tanks/kits too :)

    • Okay, this is confusing: http://www.target.com/p/balloon-time-standard-helium-balloon…

The picture is of a box of 30 balloons but the product description says "Number of Pieces: 20"

$22 seems very cheap for the 30 balloon kit!

      • thanks for the efforts, but it look like its US target not AU

        • lol you're right. Major brain-fart there. My apologies lol.

    • wow cheaper than ebay, will give big W a visit as I couldn't find anything in their website.

      thanks for you reply

  • You could try Spotlight. From memory their 30 Balloon kit is around $50. Buy the Get Creative magazine for 99cents to get a $10 discount off a minimum spend of $50 (there's a voucher on the back page.)

    • Spotlight have both the tanks like on eBay that you use then throw out and tanks that you use the helium then bring the tank back. The reusable ones are better value if you are filling a lot of balloons and will fill more balloons than they quote so it is worth picking up some extra balloons (get helium quality ones as the balloons from the budget supermarket ones end up deflating quickly)
